Easter is our independence day, and this year is the 90th, anniversary. Big parades, and more lined up. Busy weekend ahead...
Yeah, while we are on the subject, whats with the american easter bunny? Christ died, came back, the stone was rolled away, and a bunny hid chocolate eggs in the hole in yer translation there? What version of the Bible do ye read over there?

I agree, the site does go a little too far. But just look up Easter in the dictionary. It should tell you the origin of the word.

Oh, we also have the rabbit, he kinda works together with the easter-bells. I have no idea where he came from though. Frankly, I don't mind if my delicious chocolate eggs are being brought by a flying churchbell, a bunny, or simply my mom, as long as I get eggs. Wait, that's rather selfish, isn't it?

Here in Aus, the 'Easter Bunny' is slowly being fazed out, and being replaced by the 'Easter Bilby'. Hurrah for native species.

Eggs and rabbits or 'bunnies' were pagan symbols of fertility. And of the godess Ostara.
The christians overtook this pagan holiday of fertility and replaced it with the jesus thing.
I don't understand why they kept the bunny and eggs, but they're definately a pagan idea. That's why it's the same two symbols all over the world. It warms my heart to know that our pagan roots are shining brightly all over the world.

That's why I normally don't get into discussions with my family about religious holidays. They can't stand the fact that all of their holidays were stolen from pagans and renamed to conform with the church.
I don't hesitate to tell people the truth about the holidays if someone happens to make the mistake of asking me, though. There's a slow-burning rage that builds inside me when I realize the hundreds of years that people have been brain-washed by religious orders. But we'll leave that dragon asleep for now.

The easter bunny did come from pagans. In fact, the name easter came from the name of the goddess Eoster.
In myth, Eoster changed a great scared bird in to a bunny. The bunny kept certian characteristics of a bird, hence easter eggs.
