Burning Man??
Has anyone ever gone to Burning Man? Does anyone plan on going?
What was your experience? Any adivice B-cuz I really wanna go..

I've been planning on going for the last two years. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to attend this year, but in 2009 I'm all for it.

I highly doubt i'm going... I might have to wait till I'm 18.. my moms not cool with me going with out her. Im not cool with going with her... Not to mention how dreadfully expensive it will be..

I have a friend who has gone twice. He built a motorized float that looks like a tropical island, and he sits in a beach chair under palm trees as his girlfriend waves a palm frond over him, and another friend drives it around. He calls himself "King Glenn". He wears a touristy Hawaiian shirt. I have pictures around here somewhere of him in full regalia on the float in the middle of the desert. I'll dig them up and post them.

My sister and I plan on going to Burning Man one of these years. It looks and sounds absolutely awesome to me. I can't wait (if it ever actually happens, that is).

I SOOO want to go! it is only about 100 or so miles from me, too, but I can't afford it this year. I am hoping to attend 2009. I really wanted to go this year, but.... well, life and bills add up, and I've already taken one week off this summer.

I can drive, and get good gas mileage, the problem is I can't afford tickets this year, and I don't think I can coordinate days off for both my jobs again so soon (just got back from 5 days on Monterrey Bay). I live about 30 miles east of Reno, though.

look at the site for burning man for ticket prices, they start out decent at the beginning of the year and steadily rise as the event approaches. However, you can get approved for discounted tickets if you send them an application saying why you should get them. They aren't that much for some people, I'm just broke this year, and trying to pay for other things. Good luck!

I'll probably get flamed for this but I'm going to say it anyway since it looks like just about everyone here is planning to go but nobody has actually went so far. I'm only speaking for myself of course, but personally, I don't know anyone cool who has ever gone to Burning Man. I know people online who want to go (like the people in this thread) and I know people online who said they've been there or had friends go but I've never met anyone IRL whose opinion I trust tell me they have gone. It seems that IRL the only people I meet who have gone and who suggest I go are the wanna-bes and the overly "alternative" people. These are the same people I've learned not to trust on other issues of taste such as books, movies and music so I'm guessing that their positive opinions of Burning Man are also questionable.
I'm not attacking anybody and like I said, I know I'm going to get flamed for my opinion. I'm not saying that only poseurs go to Burning Man or that if you want to go that you're a poseur....but I am saying that everyone who told me it was good are people I regard as poseurs and I've learned not to trust their opinions on what is "cool".
