How old is too old?

My sister is 18 and is already dating a man that is 31. Only known him for a couple of months since July to be exact. And is already shaking up with the man. Shes been gone for like two days already. I think its too much of a rush since she had only known the man from online. I'm worried about the girl...maybe this should have been in whining...oh well.

I would definitely sit my sister down and have a chat with her if I were you..or better yet have a chat with your parents. Sure there is nothing that can legally be done to force her away from him, but that shouldn't really be your intentions.

Try to get a feel for this guy so that you might learn what his intentions are. The truth of the matter is that older men do take advantage of younger, more naive girls. Especially ones who have just started life on their own. They can often offer girls money or stability which they might not find in younger men.

You say they met on the internet.. was this through a dating site, or what?

To Kontan who said that she is 18 so let her do what she wants.. eh don't listen to that asshole. Just because she's 18 doesn't mean you have to stop caring about your family or being concerned for them. Especially when she can potentially ruin her life if this guy has poor intentions.

You're right the law does state that once you turn 18 your family should no longer show concern for what you do. Nor should they try to influence you in any way by offering advice or trying to learn about a future husband.

Who doesn't want guidance during the early years of their life? I for one am always all ears when it comes to obtaining wisdom from folks who have lived longer than me..in this case my parents. And who is to say whether anyone truly has to interfere here? What happened to families sitting down and discussing things with one another? Rather than making demands.

Who knows what the future may hold, you could also reverse what you said and have WISHED you listened to your parents or siblings when the 31 year old man who picks up just legal girls on the internet fucks over her life later down the line. Of course things could work out for the better, but why not be cautious?

Nobody wants guidance. You are speaking from hind sight. Remember that you got where you are from learning through experience and not from guidance you wish you had.

If she doesn't shack up with this guy and get abused she will end up with a guy who appreciates her, not realize how good she has it and leave him for someone who abuses her anyways. This way she'll learn and end up with the right person later on.

I was referring to your all too eager attitude to follow the law. All Kontan said was that you can't do anything because she is now 18. I believe that you CAN still influence or talk to a sibling about their possible future when it comes to a situation like this.
