Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

I already read your correction. I figured that's who you meant (Tim Skold). Now I'm interested in this whole MM being in NIN thing.

I don't have a source either, but I've heard he was in NIN, too.

I also heard that he removed a rib or two so that he could give himself a blow job.
Obviously that's not true and has been denounced in the media, hence why I want to see an article or something that states Manson was a member of NIN.

I deffinatly don't consider Marilyn Manson The "goth king", but I do like some of his music. The guy's fucking insane though.
I'm not a big fan of evanescence, but nothing against them...

He wore the prosthetics during the time of Mechanical Animals. Then rumours started circulating that he was going to get a single implant in the middle of his chest. It was just a rumour, as are most things about that guy, I'm sure.

Yes.... yes he did, while sucking his own dick and playing with his singular boob implant.

You're being sarcastic ¬_¬ ... He didn't actually kill any animals... Why do people spread so much rumors about him ??

I'm sorry, Deathchii, but your avatar inspires me to bestow hugs on you. It makes me feel strangely cheerful. I don't know why.

Manson was never a part of NIN. Reznor produced his earlier CD's before they had a falling out. Now, Jordi White of Manson's band joined NIN on the last two tours, and is acting as the current... Bassist I think for NIN.

Maybe they are not goths themselves, but they are still 1 amazing band!
I think there are a Gothic inspiration in their music. Evanescence has some very Gothic-sounding, bone chilling pieces, for example Like You or Whisper, that express depressed feelings of death and darkness far better than a screaming Goth-dressed Marilyn Manson ever could.

I don't like Evanescence because I hate Amy Lee's voice. Who said Marilyn Manson is the 'goth king'...quote him/her please. I've never heard any of his music, and I also don't think there's a 'goth king'.

Yes there is. I saw her, the goth king, at the prom.

I have to admit that I do like Evanscence. Amy Lee's voice is amazing I do find. But I also seem to get the impresssion that some of the way the music sounds is influenced by the sounds of Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil. I find those two bands so much better. But Evanescence is good. I adore the song Hello.

Goth King. The only person I can safley say holds that title in my eyes is Rozz Williams, or maybe Peter Murphy. But Murphy's always been the founding father. So yeah. Again, I can't live without you, Cic.

Oh? At this point do they have to say it? Amy Lee has cited the Cure as an influence, even that at the slightest bit gets the media aroused by this. Even if they try and deny it, they the band itslef (attempts) to bastardize every aesthetic that they, while not claiming, use for marketing.
This really isn't a rant or anything. I just felt I had to same something on this thread.

Amy Lee has also said she has fun "playing dress up". I don't see anything wrong with that. I think when she makes references to "being so goth" she's just being silly and referring to her outfits, not necessarily to being all "hardcore gothic for life" or anything. LOL. Sometimes she dresses in gothic clothing, sometimes in punkish stuff, and sometimes in really girly stuff like tutus and prom dresses. In everyday life she supposedly wears jeans and t-shirts most of the time. Who has the time to dress up & put on makeup ALL the time, anyhow? Especially if you have to do it for your job a lot.
I adore her, though. I have met her in person and she was absolutely sweet & adorable!

G_G Now I never said there's anything wrong with like Evanescence. It's just their image that's, in my humble opinion, totally a gimmick. Even their lyrics blue print that they're ripping off aesthetics and proclaiming them "alternative rock" when it already has a proper and more eloquent term. The band may not say it in general, but like I mentioned, it's all a market.

Basically how I feel. Sept the term "Symphonic" doesn't even apply at this point.

Aaah, the Ev.
Evanescence, a music that is so beautiful that it draws a tear of sorrow and joy whenever ever you hear it.
A brief moment of evanescent perfection, as of a handsome lady in white glimpsed for a moment in a pale and faceless crowd.
For a short while, you realise that there is such beauty in the darkness, a terrible and frightening beauty that never-the-less offers solidarity, peace of mind and a sanctuary where you can let it all go...
...For a short while.
It was nice when they were in the charts because they had Amy and Ben on Newsround telling all the small children about how important it is to be yourself and other nice things like that.
It was, nice.
I do wonder why they had Call Me When You Are Sober as a promo single, as personally I feel it was the weakest song on the album...
But there we are.
It makes me chuckle when I think a friend of mine refused to listen to Evanescence because he thought it was "too gothy" for him.
It also makes me chuckle to think I used to be that person too... >_>"

Yeah CMWYS wasn't the best choice for a single. It's an OK song, but IMO nearly all of their songs (past and present) are better than it. I think she was just having fun making it into a sarcastic "fuck you" instead of her usual woe-is-me-I-must-hide-because-you-hurt-me song.
Many of the songs on their EPs and on Origin and other demos are really amazing songs, even if the recording quality wasn't so great. If you haven't heard their old (pre-Fallen) stuff, give it a try. The stuff is more "raw", and more goth sounding than any of their Indie Label stuff. i.e. Even In Death, Solitude, Lies, etc. - love those songs!
