finding a nice WARM goth-ish winter coat

So, winter's fast approaching and I REALLY want to find a nice, unusual looking, goth-ish winter coat. I have LOTS of jackets and coats that I love (I'm especially fond of coats with lots of buckles), but unfortunately none of them are very warm. All of the coats I find that I like are not heavy enough to be a good "winter" coat.

I found this coat:

http://www.fanplusfriend.com/servlet...c-Metal/Detail

I really like it, and they said they could custom make it in heavy wool, and also make any modifications that I want. I'll probably get this one if I can't find anything else I like.

Has anyone seen any websites or stores that sell nice coats that are made out of wool, or are otherwise heavy and warm?

I swear by my oilskin Aussie duster, mate. Waterproof, long, black, and durable. I wear a long-sleeve shirt as a liner, and it's pretty warm that way. They're pretty sharp-looking, too.

When the long winter nights get too much for me I break out my old Navy greatcoat.
Huge bloody thing it is but it can't be beat for keeping the cold out!

And wow! That is a rather awesome website! I might get some stuff from them, if I had any money...
But yes, that coat is really rather awesome, it looks very... Elegant. I'm sure it will be more than sufficient.
The only other thing I can recommend is getting a big ol' army greatcoat!

Thats quite a pretty Coat you found there.
Only thing I dont like about it is that the front is not as long as the back.
When I was looking for a long coat for winter I was silly and looked too early. I've since then seen loads of shops with nice long coats and cheaper too

But anyways I found mine in Next. Its a Long black wool jacket, but only has 3 buttons. (I'll post a picture if I get the time)
It costed £70 (Doh!)

You should go look around in some stores and see if you see any nice long coats and see if they can be customised. ^_^

I've been lusting after this coat, but I'm definately not going to buy it until it gets marked down. Wayyy down. They had the same one last year, only the buttons were down the center, which I preferred, but did not have money then either The photo really dosen't do it justice, the way the light reflects off the black fur, how luxe & elegant you look in it. *dreamy sigh* Perhaps I can find a similar style in a thrift shop. I've been wearing the same beat-up motorcycle jacket since I was fourteen, which isn't warm at all, but I wear lots and lots of layers underneath.

I'm probably going to end up just buying that coat. I was hoping to find something I like better, and that would perhaps be a bit warmer than that one (I'm figuring that the materials are probably cheap-ish), but I'll give it a try.

I'll let everyone know how Fan Plus's quality is when I receive it.

I am having the EXACT same problem. My Return of the Living Dead sweatshirt isn't enough.

I used to have one of those "Willy" coats from Redballs. I was really unimpressed with not only the quality of it, but it fit strangely too. I ended up selling it on ebay.

I just wear a black peacoat or a leather jacket. If you can find WWII military uniforms, usually something stylish with epaulets and heavy wool can be had for a song.

Really? That's a shame. I'd have never bought it, but I always thought it was cute as an homage to the film.

I've got a cute jacket, but it's by no means warm. I need to go coat shopping now that winter is right around the corner.

I used to wear an old Army field jacket my dad had laying around, but now since I wear more than jeans and t-shirts, I wear an old trenchcoat. It has a liner that makes it really warm, and it makes a good raincoat.

I have a small poofy jacket that has a bit of corset designs on the back and around the arms, it's nice, but it doesn't cover the legs at all which could be a problem for winter.

I really like the coats that are shown on that website that chelseagirl provided.

I'm actually making myself a winter coat with black polished denim, with some purple satin and purple eyelets. The caplet on this coat is done and has a tribal design topstitched on top.
For lining, I'm using micro-polar fleece for the sake of keeping warm here.
I still haven't decided what I want to use as a closure on the front (buttons, zipper or hooks).

I will definetly post pics up after it is finished.

I've got my studded and patched denim jacket. Since I live in Minnesota, when it gets cold I wear wear a hoody under it. I also like to wear my fingerless gloves.

You can always seek yourself a cloak. They are elegant when worn properly. I have a lovely red one out of Irish wool. It's warm even on bitterly cold days.

I know! I have no longsleeve tops so I end up wearing my MCR hoodie EVERY day because its the warmest thing I have...either that or a neon skiing jacket from the eighties...I've always wanted a nice warm cloak but I can't find one anywhere...

(Yes I know MCR isn't goth, I liked their first album so I went to their concert and I bought a hoodie blah blah blah...)

I know it's winter when it snows in a desert. I need to get a coat quick, too!
