It's the same thing with different way to call.
It WAS just a hobby and some ways to gain extra money until a large group of nerds and fans labeled it as the way express their loves toward these character.

Not stupid, everyone has to have a hobby. I see what you mean about people squandering money though. It applies to a lot of things in life. Theres too much emphasis on status these days.
I would rather go without something than buy something christ knows how many other people are wearing, if I didnt have time (or the creativity) to make my own.
