Greetings!
My name is Lucas Mangum and I write horror stories and blogs centered around the genre.
As far as what I like goes, I have a variety of interests but most of them are in the horror genre (which is why I'm posting here). My favorite horror films are Night of the Living Dead, Phantasm, and Cemetery Man, but I also enjoy quite a bit of newer films like Inside, Martyrs, Subconscious Cruelty, and the Viscera Film Festival.
My favorite literature is Stephen King's short fiction, longer epic works, and everything in between. I also really dig Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury's The October Country, Brian Keene, William S. Burroughs, and Jonathan Maberry (who is also a damn good teacher!).
As far as music goes, I pretty much like everything. From Marilyn Manson to Bruce Springsteen to really annoying pop music, there is not a whole lot I don't like.
Anyway, enough from me. I dig the site though. A lot of fun information and a really cool aesthetic. Hope to post around here as often as possible.

Since when does Stephen King write epics? Or is this guy dumber than I initially thought?

I'm trying to find out the same thing but I thought figuring out exactly what he meant by "epics" would answer the question.
This is why everyone thinks I'm nice and the rest of you are assholes.

Wow, flame the new guy! (j/k)
By epics, I meant his longer works like It, The Stand, and Desperation.

Awww I really hoped for the answer to be an actual epic. There are still people out there who like real epics, right?

Oh, I can take it. I understand the hazing process for forums.
And Solumina, I dig real epics like Beowulf and Gilgamesh too.

See, this is how people should react to this kind of stuff, thanks for not turning into a flaming cunt about it like some of our more recent newbies.
Have you ever read any epic poems in their original language?

I have not, but that is very cool that you have. I'm sure it carries a flavor that may get lost in translation in the modern English versions.

No, that's because you're nice and the cool ones of the rest of us are assholes.
Cut to the chase already, just be a cool asshole Sol. We've got cookies.

This is a lot of sand pounding for the slight misuse of one word. Particularly in consideration of how often the word epic is abused in these very forums.

I've only read one, Virgil's Aeneid, but it really did give it added magic and has made me want to learn more languages. Translations are fantastic but there is no such thing as a perfect translation, they can convey the story but some of the art gets lost along the way.

I can't help it, I blame my mother, she passed all of her liberal hippy ideals to me. Almost every time I'm mean to someone I get an overwhelming desire to hug them and tell them it will be okay.

Hi newbie. Gilgamesh is epic - takes a big dump on The Odyssey IMO. XD

Welcome to the world of Gothic.net. I also enjoy Marilyn Manson. One of my favorite artists.

Sadly, that is exactly what gives him the right. He is better than you in every way possible.

Somehow I escaped the flaming, does that mean I'm special? (or am I considered to be an impurity?)

I didn't get much for some reason, either.

I said hardly anyone does. Some people are lucky or show a reasonable amount of intelligence/willingness to contribute in a decent manner/don't appear to be complete and utter fucktards. I didn't get flamed either but I am fucking golden so it's not surprising really.

I thought everyone was pretty friendly when I started here. It's only after seeing them go feral on others that I see now how it could've gone down. Whether it's due to my innate awesomeness or simply falling below the radar because everyone was too busy circling some other newbie like a pack of coyotes, I will take it.

I got a little flamed when I got here by Alan, well it was more like a cigar burn rather than an actual flaming. The only issue I have is being to damn gullible for teh trolls.
