I'm guessing you're female. And yes, ignore Unimatrix. Thank you for following up with the introduction questions. :] Have fun, and don't take what people say here too personally. If you're unsure or don't know about something (because you say you're new to goth), asking questions is much more favorable than assuming anything.

Welcome to G net. If you want to learn more about the subculture, here is a very useful link :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth_subculture
You can also educate yourself by going to the music section, since the subculture was originated from the music.
Also I'd like to say that your experience on this site can be either awesome or horrible, depending on your attitude and your willingness to embrace the culture. Unimatrix just started with the left foot, don't make that mistake.
