Both the UK and US already have ad-hoc national ID systems in place. They have been there for years.
Try getting into a pub without proper ID. Or driving. Or flying.

In the US we have state issued ids but they are far from mandatory and they are state by state, not national. You don't need an id to fly if you aren't leaving the country, some airlines require it but others don't. As for pubs and bars you just need proof of age if your age is questionable, you could bring a copy of your birth certificate if you wanted and if it is 18+ then a university id will usually suffice, you just can't drink without proof that you are of age and a state id is the easiest, most convenient way to show age.

I reject it as uncostitutional & deeply Fascistic. Secure the orders & make sure those here are here legally . I'm not talking just about illegal immigrants but people who over stay their visas, many of of the terrorists did so. but people shouldn't be stopped in the steet because they have a thick accent or dark skin color or religious garb on. they have to be committing a real crime & the officer in charge must have a real suspicion of their status is suspect before doing so.

LOL OMG equating a institution of giving out ID to make sure only there students are able to go to school in a to pay school is nothing like a Federal government forcing you to have ID so they can keep track of you.
