"You always have to have an answer to everything."

I hate that bullshit!!
Have you ever heard that? One of the most annoying conversation dead-ends of all time.
Someone tries to tell me something, I tell them my own opinion of it. They counter with something else, but I have already thought of that scenario, so I mention what's wrong with it, or in what it's in want. We continue like that for about five exchanges, and then the person gets tired that I have already thought through all of the scenarios they thought they had come up with for the first time in the history of the world, so they sigh and declare "you always have to have an answer for everything, don't you?"
Meaning
"I just have to tell you that I pity you, because every time I tell you something it just happens that you have already thought of it enough to have formed your own opinion about it and antagonize with the one I'm trying to spoonfeed you"
Anyone else hate this bullshit where society praises exceptional people so long as they're not too exceptional?

It annoys me too, it's like they don't want you to think? What am I, a retard or something??

I really hate when my dad says: God, you really have to consider studing Laws... You always have to argue about things!
Duh!, if I 'don't agree witth something, I have to argue someway...

Ha, my parents do this to me all the time. I can always outwit my mother, as she just doesn't seem able to think through the options of anything. I have now come to dread the words " I've been thinkin' "

It annoys me more when people say "You are thirteen. Therefore, you are wrong, and I am right."

To be honest, seems like their problem. You kind of have to pity them. *shrug*

Oh, and when people are evidently losing a debate and they say something like "Whatever, I don't want to debate with a retard." or something.

Or when they say “I think you’re missing my point, let’s just drop it.”

Ha, I also get that a lot. Ironically, I am indeed studying for law school.

It's the same feeling as when you say something and someone goes "God, you're such a knowitall."

Um...thanks?

I know how you feel...

For some reason, my mom apparently knows more than I do about biology and medicine, and any time I try to correct her I'm "wrong", despite the fact I'm the one in college for Nursing.

My family are so easy to beat in arguments...it's like they don't actually think.

My nan though, has such old fashioned opinions and she wont back down. We argue about EVERYTHING! we don't agree on anything atall.

Mostly when I come home and I have a new piercing and tattoo and then she goes on about how i'm depressed and that i'm mutilating myself...-_-. I said to her, so, you must have been depressed when you got those ear piercings and wanted to mutilate yourself....apparently it's different.

I go through that exact thing with my family. Im refering to my extended family here. For as long as I can remember my older cousin was the "smarter" one as far as my grandparents and my two aunts go. Yet I am nearing completion of my 2nd college degree and he quit college because he had no idea what he wants to do and got a job at the nuclear plant doing some sort of networking stuff.

They always seem to come to me when they have a question involving science or medicine, and of course I give them my best answer or opinion considering im a biologist and not a doctor. Then they argue with me.

When you grow up with a mother who has a PhD you learn how to lose arguments to the best. =)

So now my wife and kids tell me "you always have to have the last word", but all I thought I was doing was responding to them in conversation.

So now I have learned after 24 years of marriage to just bite my tongue and remain silent. Sometimes.

My roommate is very dismissive about anything I have to say.

I'm an idealist who thinks people can make a difference. She has come to know that NO ONE can make a difference anymore.

Actually, this probably belongs in its' own thread.

I get that a lot too. People are so obsessed with tolerance of other viewpoints that you're not even allowed to disgree with anyone anymore. I mean, tolerance is a good thing and all, but when engaging someone in debate is seen as picking on them then somehwere, something has gone wrong.
