im a fan of dark folk myself so i would recommend current 93 and death in june to start off with... i like my music dark and creepy...

What about gothic metal? The fashion style is closely related to that of gothic rock. With gothic metal, I am referring to bands like Tristania, Sirenia, Theatre of Tragedy and the like, not Nightwish which is sometimes mistaken as "gothic metal".

"Gravenhurst", "Mark Lanegan", & especially "Rome" might be up your alley if you haven't heard of them. Also you might find some stuff you like on the youtube channel Farmageddon Records.
