Voltaire's a good fellow. He's one of the icons that does try to properly represent us, and his work has an appropriately tongue-in-cheek quality to it.

He tells you how to look goth...? I'm outta here... Nancy Kilpatrick's book was bad enough, I don't need another author telling me I'm not a goth if I don't dress in black velvet and lace all the time.

Lol. Agreed Minyaliel. Although I would dress in black velvet and lace if I could afford such a thing, but for the most of us we cannot. =x

Agreed.... no one should even consider themselves goth if all they've done is follow some guidelines that some guy wrote in a book.

I havent read the book. Don't want to either.

Uhh.... you obviously have not met Voltaire.
It's not a serious "How To Be Goth" manual. That's what makes it so cool; it's a satire.
Besides, if anyone had any authority about what it goth, I'd give him the staff anyway.

What is Goth?
Satire, mostly. Any part of the culture you look at has elements of satire and morbid humour to it- there's no such thing as a serious how-to manual, unless someone's just cataloguing the history of the culture. Voltaire acknowledges our humour pretty well.

Hm, I rather enjoyed that video. I dont know if that's the pain pills I am on right now or I normally would like it. But it seems like my type f book. I dont think it's a manual of how to be goth, I think it's more of an informational book, where we came from, what most of us are about, stereotypes, how we became goth, what typical goth people are like, mis-judged people. Stuff like that. When I get money I am definately buy this book. It's a goth handbook. Also to be used against pesimists who hate us and people who judge us and stereotype us. Every poser should buy one too so they can get a good, swift kick in the ass-a wake up call-"You're not goth!!!" So they can rightfully become an Emo.

I can´t belive that one of the most old questions ever is still standing with that kind of stuff. I wouldn´t really buy that, because if I want to laught I´ll read the "How to Be Goth" guides from the-night.com
You just can´t go and stand on tv talking about what is "goth" or not with such a bunch of people with different mentality.
**I sense that Voltaire had one of those "oh, I think I forgot something" gestures at the end of the video clip.

Wrong!
Voltaire, if he is not already, should be the spokesman of Goth (after me, of course)
How can you disagree with a guy that wrote these lyrics? :
If I Only Were a Goth
I'd be thinner
I'd be taller
*Good clining on my collar
With skin pale as a must* [not sure it says this, but that's what I understood]
Dressed in black
I'd go creeping
When the normal folk are singing
If I only were a goth
With my hair up, I'd look fancy
Just like Siouxsie and the Banshees
With silk or velvet cloth
Dressed in boots
Never sandals
And the room
Will be lit with candles
If I only were a goth
Yes, I
Wanna die
From the bottom of my heart
Impure
Would I like another clothes
Well, sure
And after that
We'll go listen to The Cure
I'd pretend to be a vampyre
Like the stories 'round the campfire
I'd suck your bloody throat *slurps*
Yes the thing
I'd be best at
Is impersonating Lestat
If I only were a goth
[didn't understand the next three lines]
Yes, the world would be depressing
Over death I'd be obsessing
And this corpse that I'm undressing
Would be sexier
I'm guessing
With my dyed eye get scurvy [?]
And I worship Peter Murphy
If I only were a goth.

Voltaire <3. I've been planning on buying his book for quite some time. He has an excellent sense of humour, it really is a shame people don't quite catch it sometimes.

I'll have to see about borrowing a book or two of his... my lack of cash makes purchasing anything impossible.

I've heard about him before, I think I've read an interview or an article about him on Morbid Outlook. He's very interesting, seems to definitely have an excellent head on his shoulders. I do like his easiness in answering the guy on CNN there, that is certainly impressive.

Correcting Statement: Now, I can't remember if that song is indeed of Voltaire, or of Thou Shalt Not.

The video was pretty good. I think Voltaire did a good job in a difficult situation.
