Stupid shit people say about music.

Just thought I’d share a few things I’ve heard lately that made me smirk, while dying a little inside.

“I don’t MIND the Beatles, I just think they’re well overrated.”

“Nah, I dun like Tom Waits, his voice is too rapey.”

“Yeah but the Cure were just ripping off the Clash.”

I don't like The Beatles.
Then again, there are quite a few older cult bands/solo artists I don't enjoy.
I find them obnoxious.

I don't think that really is a stupid comment. Depending on how it is used. As bands get older they end up changing their style, often times that style doesn't contend to their fans interest. Much like me with Blink 182, now I still like their newest cd, but it seemed to contend to the newer emo subculture than their older stuff, which seemed like it was for alcoholic frat boys.

Sometimes that is utterly and completely true. But it all depends on the artist and the audiences opinions.

While I agree that it may be true for some bands, and that opinion will vary from person to person... I'm sure we've all known the dipshit who chants it like some sort of mantra.

"I like hardcore music like Avenged Sevenfold."

When people mix up genres i.e.: "Nah, I don't like Gorrilaz I'm not in to rap" or "My Chemical Romance is my favorite heavy metal band"

When no matter what German music I'm playing, everybody thinks it's Rammstein.

When people think the only music Germany has to offer is Rammstein and Tokio Hotel.

When people like Tokio Hotel.

It's been said but, "You've probably never heard of them" and then name either a band that is only extremely mildly obscure in the sense that it's not on the radio often, or a band with like sixteen words to it's name. "John and Matt's Offroad Kalamazoo Banjo Express Junction Project, or, JMOKBEJP"

When people tell me my music sucks and tell me to turn on the radio to the crappy 'alternative rock' station. Fuck you, you don't like it get the fuck out of my car/house/pants.

And my biggest peeve of all? When people can't just SAY THE FUCKING SONG TITLE, they have to GODDAMN SING IT/THE FIRST BIT OF THE SONG HOLY FUCK JUST FUCKING SAY THE NAME GODDAMN YOU SUCK AT SINGING.

/ragequit.

"I listened to them before they got real big"
Granted, it does happen a few times where it's true.
I know I've said it before.
But sometimes it's like, dude, you weren't the ONLY one to listen/see that band. Get over yourself.

I read your post and forgot where I was. I was about to yell at you, then remembered what thread I was in, now I want to give hugs. Or high fives, i still haven't gotten over the whole personal space issue. I hate, "no, they are too mainstream."

No lie, I was just about to post about the country part.

AD - I don't personally believe the Beatles to be among the best or most innovative band around, but however you feel about their stuff, their musical influence and significance is immense.

On that note, the debate over metal genres is always funny.

You like NO country and rap at all? You've listened to it all and said "No, its all inherently bad?"

No, I get what your saying now. The majority of both rap and country music genres, that I have listened to, I do not like and at times despise it's creation.

I really like this thread!

I get this weird excited feeling in the pit of my stomach... like the kind I get when I know there's gonna be a bar fight or some other awesome brawl.
