You annoy me
If you have ever used *these asterisks** to imply you're performing an action through the internet, you deserved to get *****, violently.
It means nothing!!
You're not pouring champagne to other people. You're not fucking passing zoo biscuits.
It's especially idiotic when a post is dedicated specifically and solely for these little pretend-servings.
You're not having a fucking reunion with hors d'oeuvres! You're just typing in your computer; the same one that has your illegal porn.
Stop being so inferior to me and realize that saying that you're hugging someone or giving them cookies means shit online.

Sorry to set you off on a rant, but it's an easy way to convey an action. Sure it amounts to shite for the other party, but it gets the intention across.

I agree. To me this is just the stirring up of nothing. I rarely use it, so I'm not offended by this at all, but it is pretty haughty in my opinion and very arrogant towards others who are just having fun. No one's hurting anyone else, or being rude to anyone else, or tipin lik dis. So there's no reason for this thread to even exist. People come to the internet to have fun, let them.

Why are people suddenly getting defensive about this when they're quick to criticise things of the same meniality?

I use them all the time, it's just a fun way of, I suppose you could say, playing pretend.
Actually, I really look at it in the sense of "actions speak louder than words" it's much easier to convey what you are feeling in response to certain things by telling the actions you wish to take rather than saying something, you can't hear sarcasm through the internet, so I've gotten into the habit of putting "/sarcasm" after all my sarcastic remarks (which are surprisingly few on this board). Some people perfer you to "envision" the body language they use behind their words.
*smiles*
Yeah, I just thought I'd let you know I'm not angry, insulted, or annoyed by this thread.

I prefer it when Jillian gets intense about political issues. If he ever teaches, woe to his students!

It annoys me a lot.
Especially when people use it instead of proper sentences or even emoticons, ie. '*is annoyed*'. What's the point in that? It doesn't take any longer to type 'I am annoyed'.

It's alright OCCASIONALLY when it's like to convey a point or something. (But I must admit, I do find it annoying occasionally too, especially when it's done alot and pointlessly).

Okay, creating a thread completely for the purpose of it is dumb, I can concur with that aspect, but I believe your ardent feelings are a bit misdirected. Still, they aren't that annoying.

It's just a way of explaining what you're metaphorically doing. I like them.

Its just a way saying how you're all idiots. Why? Because you haven't embraced Christ! God loves you all - even if everyone hates you, you are fucking ugly, fail at life, and currently work at a rubbish dump. Even if you're getting eaten by your local fat kid down the street - always remember: God loves you!

But see. THAT'S why it's so stupid.
You are NOT passing around cookies.
You are NOT hosting a party.
You are NOT playing guitar on a tree stump in the middle of a wood.
You're probably talking about things like *facepalm* as BTS said above.
I'm talking about the stupid pretend-actions involving others in here, going so far into looking like roleplay that the only thing it's missing is someone saying "hai everybody lets cyber!"

Ah, it makes more sense to me now, and I was talking about things like *facepalm*.

I can see what Jillian is getting annoyed at. I don't mind a few words in asterisks to convey a small point, but when entire threads are hijacked by people writing out elaborate bullshit within them it's just... argh. Especially when all these actions in the *asterisks' alternate reality* keep troll-spawned threads alive for pages and pages.

It's the thought that counts. And can be fun, if not done in excess. I agree that threads almost entirely full of that are mildly annoying, but in moderation it's all in good fun or can even serve to make a point that might be quicker to perform in an "action" than spelling out. Also, I've seen a good bit of this in response to troll threads. If it annoys trolls as much as it apparently annoys you, then perhaps it will discourage them. But...that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.
