Happy 4th Of July!

Happy 4th of July to my fellow U.S. G-netters!

And to everybody else here, I also celebrate YOUR independence!

So, since I've been reading around that some communities are canceling their fireworks celebrations due to budget cutting, I thought I'd pass this along.

THIS SITE FROM CRAYOLA lets you create your own fireworks display on your computer.

If anyone can post a source link for any cool fireworks screen-savers that you have tried out and like, that would be great!

In a truly polite, unobtrusive and Canadian fashion, we negotiated ours. We went to the Queen and said "Please? It would be kinda nice..."
And Kingston is still miffed that they didn't get picked as the capital... The city exudes miffedness from its pores.

It's times like this I love my country. How do we celebrate our independence? We eat a lot and blow stuff up.

Fireworks are better over Iraq or The Superbowl. But, yeah, even with its many faults and severe dysfunction I love The United States of America. We have to celebrate whilst we can, because after all, it is inherently unstable and will eventually decompose into anarcho-communism, kind of like uranium into lead.

Happy Fourth to everyone. In my state they've outlawed firecrackers and rockets. The only fireworks we're allowed are sparklers. At least we can still eat hot dogs.

According to the city we have to get a permit for sparklers, how freakin lame is that?

Of course I only know this because last year we had some fireworks that a friend got when he was back home in Georgia (not sure if he go them there or on his way back). We also found out that if you are really nice the Fire Marshal can actually grant you a permit for non-commercial use of some of the smaller rounds (like Roman candle sized stuff) as long as you have enough space, which one of our friends does, and as long as you got them legally and even though you aren't really suposed to they aren't really going to do much of anything about you bringing them over state lines as long as you get the permit to use them, and they may do an inspection of the launching site, I can't really remember but I think they said something about that. I do believe my friends did actually go with a permit this year so I'm rather looking forward to our festivities, though most of our day will be spent with Jake's family.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission demonstrates why ...

it's not okay to aim fireworks at your mom!

Beer, family, food and fireworks?!?!?! Yes, thank you please. This has got to be one of my most favorite holidays ever.

Beer is proof that god loves us, and wants us to be happy.

I didn't think anyone would still have a working Atari system that would play Custer's Revenge at this point.

Here's a couple of quotes I went looking for:

"I didn't flee a dictator or swim an ocean to be an American like some do. I just thought long and hard about it."
— Craig Ferguson (American on Purpose)

"America truly is the best idea for a country that anyone has ever come up with so far. Not only because we value democracy and the rights of the individual but because we are always our own most effective voice of dissent."
— Craig Ferguson (American on Purpose)

I agree.

Last night you could hear in my neighborhood loud firecrackers and rockets and it went on well past midnight. People went out of state to by traditional fireworks that are illegal here and it was GREAT! Way to go America.

My friends fell though on the whole getting fireworks thing so Jake and I just spent the whole evening at his parents place and watched the town's fireworks from the pool. A good time was had by all.

Since the last time I celebrated the Fourth of July I moved about 10 blocks or so from my last place. The previous apartment was inside the city limits. The current apartment is in "unincorporated Houston".

My SO got freaked out by the high number of firecrackers being set off in the courtyard by her apartment (she's on the other side of the building from my place.) She called 911 (bit of an overreaction I thought) only to have the dispatcher ask where she was and then say, "Oh, you're in unincorporated Houston. Fireworks are legal there. Nothing we can do about the noise, I'm afraid."

She called me to talk about it, and I teased her about calling 911 instead of the non-emergency number.

Then I went outside, wandered around the neighborhood and reveled in the freaking incredible amount of fireworks people were setting off. There were neighbors that were clearly competing with each other, and some of them were launching some high-grade shit. I swear I saw more fireworks last night just hanging out in the neighborhood than at any professional show I've ever been to!

The staccato rhythym of firecrackers started around 4:30pm, intensified around 7:00pm and didn't let up until about 1:30am. Folks here sure know how to celebrate the 4th!

Hell yeah. Late, but happy 4th! And meanwhile, happy 5th! Let this day's hangover pass you by with the quickness!

The church I went to yesterday had a sign on the door. It said,

"This facility will be closed July 5th, in observation of the 4th of July."

Psshh--ha ha!!

Really though--you guys have fun today, as much as possible for ya'. I mean it!

Same happened here with Canada Day, it was Thursday but Friday night when I was walking up to the grocery store the neighbours were lighting fireworks up like crazy.

I love that we don't need permits here, sometimes you just really wanna throw a dancing devil in an empty parking lot.

Got to hang out with family and later went and hung out with friends... so much beer...Oh yeah!!! Its been so long since I've partied it up like that.

However, I'm paying for it today in hangover and sunburn... the only real letdown is when I asked a 10 year old kid why we were celebrating.. and he didn't know why. :'(
