Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Gabber/Hardcore Techno
Just wondering if anyone else is into this music. To be honest, I just got into it a few days ago. But months and months before that, I was unknowingly creating it on my mixing program. The deep, earthshattering bass drums, the sinister synths, the distorted vocals... what's not to like?
I've gotten a liking to Neophyte, don't really enjoy Rotterdamn Terror Corps, and still need to hear something by Angerfist. Anyone have some recommendations?
Gabber's just SUCH an underground genre; even more so than beloved deathrock. I can't find hardly ANY of it on Soulseek.
By the way, I've started up a gabber side project by the name of End of Flowers (yes, the Diary of Dreams song). You may want to hear what I've made at http://myspace.com/endofflowersband

Going to be honest: there's a certain extent of 'TECHNO' I can take. I have listed to a good amount of Hardcore Techno...but it really doesn't suit my tastes. I mean, some of that crap sounds Hip Hop and Rave! I don't think I was able to listen to that CombiChrist song for an entire minute. It goes from expiremental to just plain dance noise. Not the good kind of noise, but...well...it's like how pornography is only for masturbation purposes...

I know what you mean, Vyv. But just like every genre of music, gabber has its share of poseurs too. Did you enjoy my interpretation of it though?
I know what you mean about pornography too. I think. Sometimes late at night, I like to put my big, deafening, ear-engulfing headphones on and pop in some random metalcore CD. It's nice to get the stress out, yes?

Granted, and good job with it. You should be a goth/alternative music journalist. Like Mick Mercer and that Pete person who had a fit with Wayne Hussey... I just heard Bullet_For_My_Valentine's latest. And look with the underscores it's looks like a scene kid's myspace/forum name.

Gabber is basically depressing, heavy techno. Something that's always present in it though, is distorted, deep bass drums. It also has an army-march-like quality to it.

I love this stuff, and regret not buying a stack of Gabber compilation CD's when I had a chance a few years ago.

I have a Neophyte compilation album with stuff from their other projects like Men of Steel and Bodylotion, and an Angerfist album I've been meaning to convert from OGG for ages.
When I get it converted, feel free to hit me up on MSN and ask me to send it over.

Eh. I'm looking through this.
I can't find much, but what I can find is pretty fun.

You should check out the End of Flowers thing if you haven't. It's pretty solid shit and it bears some originality. "Genocide of the Mainstream" or whatever is pretty cool.

How the balls did you do that music? Do you have some software or something, or did you actually go out and buy some DJ decks or whatever those crazy people use?

I used Soulseek to download the instruments (a good one I got was, obviously, called "gabber samples".). I then used a program called Acoustica Beatcraft to create, mix, and produce. It's not as simple as pressing a button and being done though, it's very one-on-one electronic music making. I'd never use anything else though.
By the way, JCC, what's your insant messenger ID? I have Y!, MSN, and AIM.

I agree gabber is a nice stress reliever, but it's more a background noise than something I would sit and listen to. I usually just listen from di.fm so I have no favorite artists

jcc-mgs@hotmail.co.uk is my MSN.
I have an AIM, but never use it because of the aggravating "Ba da dup!" every time anything happens.

Good goth.... That shit I would lack considering music. Some it even sounded like Hip Hop and Pop just with computer music.

Gabber? I know about/like/listen to gabber. Heck! I've been into gabber since before you were twinkles in your daddys' eyes. *turns nose up in the air*
But seriously- it's cool. Definitely NOT for the faint of heart/hearing.

I know, I just got into it a week ago! Hahaha!
It's like the death metal of electronic music.
