One more day. It will be interesting to see the outcome. Anyone else read where Michael Moore is setting up cameras in polling places around the globe in efforts to catch republicans tampering with the polls?

Pubs here are giving away free pints if Kerry wins. Also, if you have a valid Us voter card (like myself) and Kerry wins you get free drinks all night.

I'm voiting for him either way, but the free drinks are just icing on the cake.

If bush wins I'm going to take the final step and just renounce my us citizenship and be a one nation kinda person.

If Bush wins, Sternn, I'll fly over and buy you a beer at the bar you often talk about.

You realize that the thought of him renouncing his citizenship here caused 80% of the Democrats here to vote Bush, right?

Thanks Sternn!

BP - Tis right across from my flat - a grand place with good craic nightly.

It appears the bush team is at it again. Over a hundred thousand complaints about voting machines and miscounts and its not even one day after the election!

Exit polls show Kerry with the lead in many states he lost - including Florida.

This should be interesting.

Interesting thing they were saying on the news last night:
What really matters is the electoral votes.

So,maybe I'm wrong but it seems that you can be unpopular to most the people of the state, but as long as you get the electoral votes then you win in that state.

In that light I guess it wouldn't matter if Kerry was more popular in Florida if Bush got the eletoral votes there.

I might be missing something, but it seems that that's what was being said on all the news stations last night.

I don't know. Sternn hates Bush with a passion. I'm afraid at this point that if I went to Emerald Isle, he'd put a slug in me. LOL.

As for the electoral votes, it's true. You can have the popular vote with the nation, but still lose the election. However, you have to win the popular vote in a state in order to get the electoral votes there.

Funny thing that Ice and I were trying to figure out last night is why, on the exit polls, when they gave Maine to Kerry, he apparently only recieved three of their four electoral votes, then two hours later he got the other one. Kinda goofy. I thought it was all or nothing.

That is odd. This *sort of* explains it, although it seems like a strange system, to me.

This definitely could have had something to do with it:
Quote:
Under state law, Maine awards two electoral votes to the statewide winner and one apiece to the winner in each of its congressional districts.

And this might have played a role? Although, I'm pretty sure Maine *didn't* split its electoral votes, unless it decided to do so, pre-election, and each split went to Kerry? But, no, that makes no sense at all.
Quote:
People who live here say there are two different Maines -- the liberal, populous and wealthy southern coast and the conservative, sparsely populated and poorer north. Those different Maines could split its four electoral votes by awarding one candidate three votes and the other candidate the one remaining. That lone electoral vote could determine the election: in 2000, George W. Bush defeated Al Gore 271-266, barely collecting the 270 electoral votes required for victory.

So maybe that has something to do with how it was reported?

But he did promise to renounce us, I wonder if he will keep his word.

Heh, thanks :P

That was crazy. One or two states fell even before 20% of the precincts were counted. S'nuts.

...

On a side note, being one of like 3 Bush supporters in my school, and for defeating Anti-Bush day I was the most "public" supporter.

Sooo... I nearly got mobbed.
Yeah. o_O

Considering some of his remarks about terrorist-sympathy, I'd be carrying a gun on me too when I met him.

Of course I'm just kidding, Sternn! :D
Although your ownership of a shotgun does make me hesitant to follow through.

All I can say is I feel sorry for you guys having to slug it through four more years of Bush administration. Security, morality, Christianity and war. The right wing really has the world in a vice grip these days, it would seem. I remember when Bush was first "elected". A friend of mine was out travelling in South America, and he met a bunch of people who had actually made good on the promise of leaving the country if Bush won the presidency. It's kinda sad, though travelling the world does seem infinitely better than to live in Bush's U.S.A. What I would like to see, is a U.S. run by Ralph Nader. It's totally unlikely, but just imagine how refreshing it would be to have a president who's really devoted to important domestic issues such as labor rights and health care. Someone who is not a pawn for the neo-liberalistic forces.

What "neo-liberalistic" forces would those be?

And what the hell people...do we insult leaders of YOUR homeland?
The election insults and complaints have, in my opinion, become unwarranted, seeing as elections have passed. Members have left the forum, it got that bad. Sure, there are those who do not live here in the US that have their opinion, and those who live here do.

And please, at LEAST put some humor into it.....

When I say neo-liberalism, I mean the big global corporations, the business lobbyists and general cameraderie among business cohorts in positions of power. Although I'm not gonna underestimate George Bush´s capacity to lead and organise, I do think that an independent candidate like Nader would be less susceptible to pressure from these various interest groups than your average Republican. The thought of having him as U.S. president is just wishful thinking, but I still like the guy for getting in there as a positive alternative. And frankly I couldn't give a rats ass if you insulted the leader of my country. He's got nothing to do with me. Understand that I'm just offering a small portion of my humble opinion on a political matter.

I wish that people could just see the illogic in fleeing the country if he wins... Get some REALLY REALLY annoying person to promise to flee the country if the candidate you want wins, and then have them talk to people all the time until they get irritated into voting against their choice, just to be rid of those people... That's a better strategy, and you don't even lose support for your side. Too little, too late for creativity I suppose.
