Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Symphonic Metal, Anyone...?
Hello, again-- I was just wondering if any of you out there happen to like Symphonic Metal.. I'm a big fan of Epica, Within Temptation, Sirenia, After Forever, Tristania, Moi Dix Mois, Apocalyptica, Nightwish (back when Tarja was the singer...), and Wintersun, all of which could be considered symphonic metal, so I was hoping there might be some others on here who could recommend other great bands for me.
please feel free to post links and/or names of bands and songs you think I should check out :3

You've named just about all I would have mentioned.
Opera IX are great. There's also Therion. Cadeveria(sometimes).
Can't think of any more off the top of my head that you haven't already mentioned. You have good taste.

Me, *hands up*
Nightwish is more like symphonic metal after Tarja left, if you ask me.
Compared 'Dark chest of wonder' with 'Sahara'

Well, they're practically a different band now. I think Tarja's voice was more suited for Symphonic Metal.

Agreed. I cannot stand Annette. Sonata Arctica is good.

Eh... please don't kill me for saying this, but I hate Sonata Arctica's vocalist >.> Otherwise, their music's great, but I just cannot stand the singer's voice.

i rather enjoy listening to Lunatica on occasion. Not sure if they're "true" symphonic metal since all these fucking genres and subgenres have contested bands. Some say nay while others say differently.

Don't you hate that? Gods.. why can't they all just listen to good music and not worry about the genres?
I mean, Within Temptation's music tends to fluctuate between "true" symphonic metal to almost Trad with some of their slower songs, and just about everything in between. I love them dearly, so it bothers me when they get flamed for having some diversity..

I really like Epica and Tristania, and I love the first two albums of Theatre of Tragedy (ToT/Velvet Darkness they fear) - but they are much more sombre than the stuff you have listed.
Myriads - Flickering thoughts
Penumbra - Bloody experience(!!)
Abonos - U krosnjama abonosa
Possibly "Haggard"? (Not the country-guy) - The final victoy

I like some symphonic.
Within Temptation is better than Nightwish though. I like few songs from Nightwish, my favorite being the only one with the men of Nightwish strictly, I believe.
I love Apocalyptica, especially when they team up with another singer, except Corey Taylor.
I have never heard of the others.
Though I do listen to Dark Moor, Fairyland, and Symphony X.

Who the fuck cares? You? Then don't read what I have to say. Who knows, maybe the Goddess listens to metal and has tattoos on her eyeballs. Maybe Cerunnos has every album The Gathering's put out and wears clothes with D-rings and grommet tape all over them. Maybe Loki is secretly the singer of Chaotique, and Fenrir plays drums with his tail. Maybe Morrigan acts as a muse for all of the Dutch symphonic metal bands out there. Anyways, my point is, who really knows?

Doesn't being pagan just mean that you worship your own idols and possessions? It just means you make up your spirituality as you go along doesn't it?

My opinion, They're totally different band be'cos of more instruments was used in the song to keep their levels of symphonic-ness.
They're more 'pop' than ever.

Seriously, I can't stand anymore of Within Temptation's music videos.
At first, 'Ice Queen' is pretty cool but, then, they screwed "Mother Nature" and 'Angel'.
