Morgan, what you can do is use Firefox. It has an automatic spellchecker underlining suspect words in red and then you can right click for a choice of replacement words. I use it for all my posts, but it doesn't catch grammar mistakes like using "there" when you should use "their" and "to" when it should be "too".
But yeah, members here get a little snarky about spelling, punctuation, grammar, and the rest of the usual literary crimes. There are even threads about "What words do you hate people using?" etc.

I am using Firefox. I refuse to use anything else. However, I do type rather fast and don't always look carefully at what I'm typing -- especially when it's just a Forum.

I understand, and in fact I can be the same way. However, there is a difference between a literary endeavor and a forum post. I prefer to save my criticism for actual literary work and I prefer to make them Constructive, not Destructive.

OH MY GAW! You know SpookyPurple???
Please ask her to come back to Gnet. I haven't seen her posts in years. She probably wouldn't care for me to say this but...well...
She is the only other member close to my age that used to post more or less regularly.

Sadly, we didn't remain in contact after the 'Exodus', but she was excellent people and very level-headed; especially considering what was happening at the time.
As as aside, I'm around your age too -- and then some.

UO's the name, and gettin' drunk and making fun of random people is the game.

In any case, hey.

Hey UO,
-- I can respect that. I'm rather fond of cutting people down to size myself. Logic is my weapon of choice. Very difficult to fight logic, but it Can be done if you're clever.

The mud-slinging does seem to have died down.

You work in Historic Williamsburg? SWEET! I was there a couple years back during one of the Revolutionary War things; garbed out and everything. I so want to live there.

Well I didn't sling any mud, would you like a brownie and count that as mudslinging instead?

Actually I have a better idea *crumbles a brownie and puts it in chocolate pudding and slings that instead*. The consistency of mud.

Well I work in Williamsburg but not the colonial bit. I actually work at a resort about 10 minutes down the road, although we do have a 300 year old manor house that the property is built around.
I do agree that the area is lovely but it is growing rather quickly, which I've seen play out before with less than stellar results (at least here it is mostly sustainable and mostly business oriented so things may go better than they did in NoVa), and it is rather expensive so I still live down in Newport News. I am happy to say that the growth has led to some fantastic restaurants opening.

At least you're not trapped in a corporate office and Newport News is a fairly pretty town.

Unfortunately, I've seen that happen here in Charlotte. Stupid out of state corporations buying large chunks of perfectly nice forest and putting stupid condos on it that are too damned expensive for anyone to live in. They're all over the place -- and they're all Empty.
