Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

So you are absolutely right, its the playability and feel of the instrument and the person playing it that matters, along with modern production techniques and cheaper production costs have allowed quality instruments to be accessed by a greater number of players than before !!!.
I wish you could try my fretless FrankenSqueir you would love it !!!.

Have you tried the Squier VM Jazz bass fretless yet?
It was (one of) the best basses I've ever come across, and I've used MIAs, Signatures, Warwicks, and every bass in the stores I go to, and this one blew me away...
It's immeadiatly going into my collection.
It even gets pretty close to the jaco growl if your technique is right (and I'm getting rotosound roundwounds, like jaco had)

I've got an acoustic guitar that i'm awful at, I won't blame my dyspraxia for my inability to play but that's what everyone else says is my problem. My brother played the drums and has a real nice set, as soon as I find the foot pedal I plan to start playing them. My rhythm isn't too awful...

Those are pretty rad, Lethean.
I play an original 77 Gibson SG bass that a friend of mine found at a pawn shop.

Nice!
My friend has an original '75 SG bass... It's neat.
Once I went fretless though, I never went back (unless I want to play slap style :P)

Nope. Ever heard of "Fast-Fret"? Got some as a gift. Seems rather nifty. What do you think?

I just got a ukelele for my birthday.
A crappy cheap one, but it's still a ukelele.

They actually are.
Easiest instrument in the wooorllddd.
My friend came over with a book of folk songs for the uke and we went through it in half an hour.
It's ridiculously fun.

I've got a bunch of instruments lying around here (a little pseudo-Irish harp, various flutes and a Gothic hurdy gurdy), but my main instrument and thus the only one I'm regularly playing is a drone zither (a French/German Renaissance version of what became the Dulcimer in American Folk music).
Besides that I mainly play percussion and sing.

It's an SX Les Paul Guitar. So it's relatively cheap but good for a guitar novice like myself, probably somewhere down the line maybe September next year I'll look into getting something better.

Yeah, wasn't discrediting them.
I have a Squier that beats an MIM Fender, so pricetag =/= quality

Damn straight!
Me and my Squier VM fretless or even me and my Squier Affinity P bass > the *stuck up* jazz bassist at our school with a Geddy Lee sig.... I'm too lazy to replace him :S
