There's a big difference between intolerance towards idiotic behaviour and intolerance towards say.... homosexuality, and the difference isn't that I belong to one group that isn't tolerated and not the other, because I belong to both.

Not true, oh homosexual one: human gifts and attributes do not come in digital increments, but span the blessed Gaussian bell curve in as many variations as points on the number line. This includes intelligence, and thus, together with emotional inclinations, testosterone quantities and patience (or lack thereof) the graduations of the mind should also be accepted in their respective amounts. Jillian has been bestowed by the natural imperative with a larger number of neuronic connections than I, yet there is a tolerance for my lesser intellectual capacity, and I tolerate his fewer and inexperienced years.
Tolerance allows not only harmony (a rather boring predicament I agree) but also allows us to be exposed to insight otherwise missing from our individual perspectives. The alligator has a different perspective of the jungle than the giraffe; and the loftier is not always the predator, but sometimes the victim of those below him.
