Sex and guns always end up linked together. I might have figured out why.

Which leads to the saying of "lock and load".
The sad part is that I just showed you exactly how an M60 works. That's not the bolt locking back, that's the bolt being charged to the reakr. It does not lock until a round has already been chambered.

As for where "lock and load" came from, it's dated back to the M1, which had a function of fire that actually did lock before chambering.

Quote:
The most common theory traces this order to the operation of the M1 Garand rifle. Before loading the ammunition clip into the rifle, the operating rod handle is pulled to the rear until the bolt is securely locked open. According to the M1 Garand Manual, loading the clip without first locking the bolt could result in an accidental discharge of a round. In the 1943 training film (Rifle Marksmanship with M1 Rifle) the instructor orders first "Lock" then "Load".

Quote:
Once the clip is inserted, the bolt snaps forward on its own as soon as thumb pressure is released from the top round of the clip, chambering a round and leaving it ready to fire.[31][32] It is advisable for the operator to ride the bolt forward with his hand (in order to prevent the bolt from closing on his thumb, resulting in "Garand thumb" or "M1 thumb"), and to strike the operating rod handle with his palm to ensure the bolt is closed.[32][33]

When in an unfired state what position is the bolt at in an M-60?

It is forward,or closed, the bolt has to be manually locked back to load it after a belt of ammo is inserted into the feed mech, and the top cover is closed.

Keep in mind that this whole thing became an issue because Versus was shown for the idiot he is when he stated that a standard centerfire handgun round is more powerful than a .410 shotgun.

Which proved that he was is in fact the dumbest S.O.B. i've ever tried to explain something firearms related to.

The same "brilliant" mind that thinks the 352 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle from a .45 acp handgun beats the 762 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle from a .410 shotgun.

Sometimes the power of a firearm has as much to do with the ammo you're shooting as it does with the caliber. Rat shot from a .44 Colt won't do as much damage as a hollow point. Same with a shotgun.

I've never shot a .410 so I don't what they are capable of or if they are or aren't more powerful than a .45.

From porn on tap to the self-loathing childhood trauma of an unhinged conspiracy nut... this is some tragic shit. Now all I can picture is some husky damaged goods, jiggling toward me in a primal rage yelling "LOCK AN' LOAD!!!" while weeping in slavering gratitude that some psychotic girl who can't shoot for shit was benevolent enough to refrain from slitting his throat while he slept. And just when you think it can't get any more unsexy, it turns out he's also a fattie.

A hairdryer in a desert couldn't dry femspuff quicker than that image. Thanks for nothing, G.net. *madface*

It really does depend. Here's an example of how much .45 can vary, without taking into account stuff like terminal ballistics when the round actually impacts something (the meat of my argument).

http://www.ballistics101.com/45_acp.php

Immediately out of the barrel, the .410 has more kinetic energy. I never disputed that. I did, however, mention that it loses a lot at just a little range because it's so small for a shotgun round. Shotguns load either slugs, or in this instance, pellets. The pellets spread pattern can vary depending on the length of the barrel and the type of load in them. My argument is that, even with a full size choke, .410's ballistics are lackluster compared to other shotguns, and at just a little bit of range, even a hand gun. It's because part of ballistics is the shape of the round, and pellets make for horrible aerodynamics so they lose speed and power very quickly. If you couple that with the horrendously ineffective spread, it becomes apparent why I'm arguing in the first place.

http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/...S/GUNBLST.html

And Deadman: I'm not researching anything. I'm working 20 hour days, so I can't reply immediately. I'm posting links to show that I'm not pulling this crap out of my ass and that I can do a little more then google .410 vs .45.

Wait, what?!? Holy crow! That's kinda shocking and pretty awesome all at once. Get her to drop by! I wouldn't even mind if she wants to pop by just to gush about how fabulous her beau is. But I miss me some Daz posts.
