Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Gothic music with a twist of metal?
Hello.
Well, to be honest.. I don't know too much about true gothic music.
Maybe I'm not a true goth, but I don't care much as I like being myself.
While I do not want to absorb the gothic music genre by all means, it would be cool if I could.
Despite being rather fond of Siouxsie and the Banshees that would be about it so far.
I am more of a metalhead as such.
Then I'd like to know, are ther some true goth bands with a metal twist?
I honestly don't believe forcing myself to listening to Alien Sex Fiend over and over will make me enjoy it the least bit more..
Thanks on advance.
- Anarasha.

Oooh.
Just got to Sisters of Mercy.
Anything else in the like of that?
Sisters of Mercy appeals to me quite a lot.

I'm not big into gothic music either, I'm a metal/industrial/EBM fan myself, but I do believe someone mentioned earlier in another thread that you should check out KMFDM which I will now say again: Check em out! They're so awesome.

Oh, and I just saw in another post that you like Lacuna Coil. So check out a band called Nightwish, I think you'll like them as well.
I know these bands aren't really what you're asking for but darn it, I think you'll like em anyways. ;P

You like Nightwish? Try Within Temptation. Epica and Sirenia. I think someone said it, but I'd also check out Lacrimosa.
Alright, it isn't very true goth, but what the hell xD
Ooh, and Cinema Strange is awesome. The first deathrock band I came to like. Deathrock is very respected within the goth scene.

OMG listen to Bauhaus!!! *drools* LOL.
So you like more of the gothrock/gothic metal stuff? Like Cyntrox said, listen to Epica you might like them. Then go from there.

Christian Death. Make sure you get the early stuff like Only Theater of Pain and Iron Mask that feature Rozz Williams.
Also, not goth but industrial, check out Skinny Puppy. You'd probably like the album called The Process, which is the most aggressive with a slight metal edge to it, but their other albums like Too Dark Park are fucking awesome as well.
And yeah, Bauhaus, specifically Volume One, which is a good intro album into Bauhaus. You also might like Nosferatu, specifically the album Legend.

If you liked/loved Sisters of Mercy you could try Fields of The Nephilim as well. They are an excellent guitar driven gothic rock band with a hint of metal. Here are some awesome tracks I would recommend you check out.
Last Exit For The Lost (the live version from Earth Inferno is incredible and a good bit heavier)
For Her Light (get the version from Revelations because its longer)
Dawnrazor
Moonchild
Phobia
The Watchman
Submission
Paradise Regained
At The Gates of Silent Memory
Endemoniada
Sumerland
Preacher Man
Love Under Will
Blue Water

Well, the good news and bad news is that the Sisters are one of the most imitated goth bands of all time. So if you like them, there's lots out there like them, the bad news is that most of it isn't quite as good (but still worth a listen). I would recommend:
Rosetta Stone
The Wake
Nosferatu
Clan of Xymox (more darkwave, but same deep vocals)
Fields of the Nephilim

Yes, Fields of the Nephilim are excellent. If you want the metal edge though, I also recommend simply Nefilim, which has the same vocalist and lots of metal elements: heavy guitars, double-bass, etc.
This is taken from the thread I made on page 2 called Nefilim:
Here's a stupid MP3 thing I found really quick to give you an idea. It only gives you a few seconds though and then repeats itself:

Lacrimosa is one of the only bands with metal in them that I enjoy.
You should also look for Laibach and Killing Joke, they're stronger than most other bands I enjoy.
And I don't know if someone's mentioned it, but you might like looking for Throbbing Gristle.

London After Midnight.
Also try Panzer AG. I really can't relate to metal anymore. Actually, I never really did to begin with.
Okay, so you like aggression...
Panzer AG
Combichrist
Psyclon 9
Suicide Commando
Hocico
And One
Caustic
Bile
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Agonoize
Dreamside
And though I can't STAND this band, you might like them: Bella Morte.

Does anyone know any vampire themed metal, without growling.
In fact, just none annoying or "manly" sounding vampire themed bands (metal or not, any genre).
No one say theatres des vampires, that one is obvious.

By the way, I had a tiny orgasm when I read that.
"Maybe I'm not a true goth, but I don't care much as I like being myself."
Seriously, I love you. (in a none creepy friendly kind of way)

Soon as I read your post, I was going to make mention of this, but it's already been mentioned, so...

I'll second this, but for what you're looking for, I'd go with the Columbus, Ohio band and not the UK post-punk one. Just because the former has almost the same vocal style (eerily copy-cat) and same hint of metal influence as the Sisters of Mercy.

Try a goth band called, "Lestat." They uhh... get pretty carried away with that and you'll note that upon hearing the vocals (which aren't manly, but are obviously vampire-esque/accented in the style of).

Ermm... no, this band was around well before the movie (late 80s/early 90s). Apparently they're non-existent on Amazon.com and neither is the compilation I first heard them off of ("What Sweet Music They Make R.I.P.).
Ran a quick search on Soul Seek to see if I could find albums or songs and two popped up (three, but the first was a demo tape). Ironically one of the album names happens to be, "Theatre of the Vampires," in addition to, "Vision of Sorrows."

Is the only place online I can find an audio sample from.

Damn, they sounded like they could have been good.
