I honestly cannot remember ever being actually scared by a movie when I was a kid. Any time I watched a scary movie, I would watch it again right afterwards, usually 3 or 4 times in a row. The Shining, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare On Elmstreet, Night of the Living Dead. Nothing really scared me. There were scenes in movies that would make me jump, but only the jump scenes, i.e. the scenes where a loud noise and a lot of movement follows a stretch of silence or ominous music.

The troll in "Willow" scared the hell out me when I was a kid. There's a scene in "The Last Starfighter" in which a guy is slowly melted. I wasn't fond of that, either.

My parents didn't let me watch hardcore horror films until I was a bit older, so they didn't disturb me too much.

The movie adaption of Roald Dahl's 'The Witches' always used to scare the spork out of me. Still disturbs me a bit now, Anjelica Huston has such scary makeup in that o_O

There was some movie I can't remember the name of (probably repressed the memories) where people were somehow transported into this evil doll house and if they didn't get out in so much time they would turn into a doll. It scared the ever loving life out of me when I was little. I'm not sure why, though, because I can't really remember anything about it but bits and pieces of this one scene that gives me the general idea of what was going on.

Also seconding Red Dawn.

My family never watched movies, really, so when I caught a bit of Poltergeist at a friend's house, age 5, it furnished me with nightmares for many years.

Movies never really scared me when I was a kid, although I was a little uncomfortable watching Disney's "The Little Mermaid." Ursula scared me a bit, but I love that movie now.

When I was a bit older, "The Blair Witch Project" scared me when I first saw it, but I got over it. I love that movie also.

When I was a kid I watched scary stuff all the time; "Tales From the Crypt" was my favorite show, I thought the Cryptkeeper was funny. Still do.

I was more scared by books. They inspire imagination more than movies, and scary stories in particular make you think the worst.

Yeah, I was never scared of the Cryptkeeper. I'm just scared of everything else.

He was just funny though.

I am sooo fucking going to get laughed at for admitting this but:

ET left me scarred. I hate him. He's scary. Whoever thinks he's cute must have been dropped on their head as a baby.

Oh my, I recall when I was four, my father showed me "The Shining" for the first time. I remember not being able to sleep the entire night--that scene with the lady in the bathtub just kept playing and replaying in my head, and no matter how hard I tried, I could never shake that haunting image.

But going back and watching it now at sixteen, almost seventeen, I wonder what I ever found so scary about it in the first place. If anything, it just makes me laugh.

I can't think of anything right now, but my friend Eve had the living shit scared out of her when she watched "It", that evil clown movie. She saw it when she was 6, and it's been quite a few years since she saw it. She's still scared of clowns, as am I, but I never watched any psychopath clown movies.

I imagine this is pretty typical and a touch pathetic, but the "Goosebumps" TV Series used to freak me out.

Yeah, that film creeped me out as well. Clows scare the shit out of me as it is, but killer clowns are simply horrific.

One of the films i used to watch as kid, called Phantasam, give me the willes, but i watched again, for the first time in years, just the other day and i realised that it was crap and about as creepy as...something that's not very creepy. [sorry, that was a bit lame but i've been drinking for the last twenty four hours solid and i'm a bit sleepy].

Dark Crystal scared me. as did Labyrinth (the monsters and the concept scared me) though I loved them at the same time. It was subliminal.
The Twilight Zone episode with the murderous doll was scary too.

I was rather sheltered though, so I was never exposed to any horror movies.

Watership Down. The scene where the rabbits drown gave me nightmares for years, and I still have not seen it all the way through to this day.

The Nightmare on Elm Street terrified me when I was a kid. Sometimes, I almost wouldn't be able to go to sleep because I was afraid Freddy Krueger would come and get me...........

Killer Klowns From Outer Space
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th (especially when I did start going to camp)
Jaws
Candyman

One of the more recent films to give me nightmares has been "Sleepaway Camp". The whole film's garbage in that cool 80s way, but it's the trick ending and how they shot it that scared the crap out of me.
