8 years smoking ...
... and yesterday was all over . 8 years of ciggies are now history . I'm fighting with my own organism , every cell shouts for nicotine , but my will is winning , so this time I'm not worried at all : I simply left this cigs over the table , I know I'm not gonna touch them anymore because I-DONT-WANT .
And for the record : No bupropion , no Nicorettes Patches , no drugs , no alcohol and no more food . No gum . No orange juice . No hypnose . No psycho-terapy . Only free will . Only me and the mirror .
Yes : I drink a lot and make a lot of sport . That helps keeping good mood and being productive . I also don't consider myself a "ex-smoker" , but a "non-smoker" .
Are some of you familiar with smoking cesation or planning to do it next year?

......no.
My brother gave up though, to improve his Rugby playing. He started going to the gym and everything and in a matter of 8 months he's gone from being quite thin to being a bloody tank.

I say I'm gonna quit smoking, but I stopped making th attempt awhile ago. It doesn't help that most of my friends smoke.

BRAVO STEPPENWOLF! You just extended your life.
You and I will be attending the funerals of those who continue to smoke.

Never, ever, ever pick it up again. Never. One single cigarette 2 years from now can put you right back to full time smoking. GOOD LUCK, you can do it!
I am on 4 months non-smoking at the moment. I have quit twice before for over 2 years each time. Really, just stop and never look back, never have one on New Years Eve 10 years from now just stop and leave it in the past, fully.

I'm actually in the process of quitting smoking right now, too! It's a tricky thing, and I will admit, I had one last night, but I think I'm excused, as the circumstances were severe, and I had no one to talk to.
Anyway, YOU CAN DO IT. Don't let a plant rule your life!!

Congratulation to you, Steppenwolf, I know it takes a lot of a person to do so. My mother also managed to do so and is a hell of a lot happier for it.

I'd rather that you didn't act as if non-smokers are somehow superior to smokers, they simply choose not to smoke, whereas other people find it calming or cathartic. I don't like smoking, but I certainly wouldn't say that I am better than people who smoke. Hell, my idol (Tom Waits) has the chain smoking to thank for his wonderfully distinctive voice.

Congratulations. I hope you keep it up.
I quit on September 16th, though my last smoke was on Thanksgiving (but in between those dates I only had a few to take of the edge of quitting). I had been a smoker for 11 years. I went cold turkey.
It's weird, I've tried going cold turkey before, but it was always so difficult. This time, though, it was like a walk in the park compared to this time. I guess this time I found the proper motivation.

Believe me, I am the last one to try and seem superior to anyone (the older one gets, the more one realizes one is ignorant of many things). BUT...
I was only stating a fact, and stating that fact for the purpose of discouraging smoking, and encouraging smoking cessation. I have been to too many fucking funerals that were directly caused by smoking to not try and stigmatize smoking so as to possibly save even one life.
I know smoking is a cool part of a Goth lifestyle (I used to smoke too years ago), but the time has come for us to stop putting our collective heads in the sand and thus permit preventable deaths.
I would consider it a good thing if smoking were stigmatized and thus discouraged new victims.
But I will be the first to say there are many people superior to me that happen to smoke. People with vast education and involved in significant contributions to society. It was not said with the intent to belittle anyone who happens to smoke.

Good job! I personally am not fond of cigarettes, so I can't even imagine how hard it must be to quit... best of luck to you!

Non-smokers are not superior to smokers. Former smokers, on the other hand...

First off, congratulations to Steppenwolf. Keep it up.
Secondly, this post has inspired me to break the remaining cigarettes in my pack. Thank you. Hopefully, I won't be an idiot and buy more tomorrow.

Don't break them, because if you do get more tomorrow, you'll just have wasted money. Just try to space them out longer than usual.

Agreed. Smoking is disgusting. I'm extremely against all drugs though. It's kinda bad to the point of i've been dropping friends do to their habits.
