Tips for goth dress without being "too goth"

I like all my goth clothes
but can't wear them all goth because my school is retarded
anyways this is not the whining board
it's fashion

so I just need some tips to dress goth,
With still looking somewhat "nice"

I guess...
Not really sure.

But any tips would help.

*sigh*

Have you even tried yourself yet? I mean, we don't even know what's in your wardrobe.

I mean, if you're wearing nothing but bondage straps by Tripp and spikes all over your clothes, I really dunno what to tell you.

Yea I've tried,
I own a bunch of black and red skirts that I buy from a cheap store down the street from my house.
I don't just buy brand names, Hot Topic was the first thing that came to mind.
I go to the store and buy short black skirts and black, red, or maroon colored shirts.
I'm sorry I'm not as goth as everyone else.
My mother threw out half my wardrobe that I used to have.

Being more or less goth than the next person has nothing to do with clothing.

Keep it simple, black jeans of normal width, bit of lepord print, or maybe a nice red blouse, normal clothes in dark colors

Fashion is an art, my dear. Even if you resort to shopping Hot Topic, find shit that works. DIY. You're being very general, sweetie. Be specific. You shouldn't have a problem with being too "goth" in school. You assimilate the mundane, the mundane does not assimilate you.

Maybe wear a lot of white?
White looks nice, and can be extremely "gothic" at the same time..
That's the only advice I can spit out, as you're not specific on the type of things you wear..

Eh, just keep things simple.

Very general advice, but good nonetheless.

Good point, i think you can wear what you want but just keep the spikes and make-up to a low level.

Basically what these people said.
Stick to simplistic things generally, and if you are the kind of person who enjoys dressing in elaborate clothing, then go with lighter colors.
Do you wear makeup at all? If so, could it be considered 'dark'? Also, if you do wear makeup, is that also something that your school is disallowing?

Be creative, don't just slap all the black on you can find and everything you own that you consider goth. Mostly schools ban spikes, chains, and the like, since I suppose you could do some damage to someone if you really tried with these...
