Does walking the dog count as Gothercize?

Ever since he's come into our life, my MTB is in the garage sadly collecting more dust on top of the dried out mud I didn't get around to cleaning last time I took her out for some fun.

I should start tracking how far I go with the lab-hound. I do have a pedometer, but always forget about it somewhere not where I am at the moment.

I biked again today. Not quite as tired as I was yesterday. I do need to get one of those big gel-padded seats because I forgot how much the normal one hurts my ass. My poor ass.

I think it depends on a) how far you're walking and b) how much black eyeliner you're wearing.

Walking makes up a pretty decent percentage of my exercise routine; I go on long walks/hikes a few times a week and pretty much just swing a kettle bell around for a little while a couple other days. Simple, but it works. As long as you're moving, it counts!

I think we usually go half or three-quarters of a mile twice a day. I keep it as brisk of a pace as possible, but hey, he's a Lab + Hound mix so it's in his genes to smell nearly everything!

teehee... yep hard to walk far with a sniffing dog

Don't ask about my workouts, because I've been sick since August and pushed myself to the wall and fell off the side of it but now I'm back, and I feel like the last year at the gym has totally gone down the toilet with the illnesses. argh!

You have a strange definition of 'exercise'. Physical exercise is merely any physical activity that increases or upholds a level of fitness. by your definition someone who was fit and healthy who worked out to maintain their fitness level and not to lose weight wouldn't be exercising - umm... nope.

Anyways... I have lost nearly 88lbs in just less than a year by swimming (swimming is a fantastic exercise because you don't get disgusting and sweaty), and while I still have a lot of weight to lose I absolutely love my body right now.

I also belong to a website called fitocracy.com - you log the exercises that you do and get awarded points for them. The points add up to different levels, so you can level up like a RPG character!

That fitocracy sounds like a neat site, Absynthe.

Of course, I do so little loggable work outs that I would level slow as a snail. I leveled slow as a snail in MMORPG's too, though. I was always too interested in questing, crafting and pulling random strangers into spontaneous RP situations

Tonight's walking of the dog was 0.31 miles (0.50 km). Hardly any intensive sniff breaks. But we got to a slow start because he wanted to have words with the Mastiff mix across the street who was peering at us from just inside their storm door.

Cara I'm on fitocracy too and (at least in the early levels) you can log things like taking the stairs and walking, even for short periods of time, there are also quests that you can do, frequently the encourage you to incorporate new things into your workout.

This sounds amazing. If it can be modified to accommodate HIIT, I'm in.

I have a FitBit, which is a pedometer that also tracks how many flights of stairs you climb each day, as well as sleep efficiency. You get little badges for various accomplishments. I do ridiculous things for those stupid little badges.

Today, I climbed 13 extra flights of stairs for a tiny square of colored pixels.

I keep meaning to pick up a pedometer so I can start doing the Eowyn's Challenge. I'd love to be able to say I walked enough distance to go to Mount Doom and back.

I did not know this was a thing. I am now super excited. I am going to invent my own freaking badge and give it to myself when I hit this. Maybe it will convince me to take more walks with my husband. I tend to incorporate a lot of walking and stair-climbing into my day (I usually wind up having walked about three miles throughout the course of an average day at work, by just never sitting down and jumping/dancing/moving a lot). He paints, and therefore is stuck at a desk. He's also much less prone to pick up the kettle bell than I am. So on days I'm too busy to want to hike, he doesn't get to move much.

BUT NOW I CAN JUST PRETEND I AM A HOBBIT.

You can make a bunch of different badges, like a Rivendell badge! And mark yourself on a map!

I think they have a milestone thing but its for every 25 miles.

Wow, you've gone into an area of LoTR territory that is scary in a geeky way. Yep, I felt a chill, yet it sounds like good exercise.

This is actually sort of controversial.

Not that I would know anything about that.

Really?

I now feel morally obligated to admit that, while I don't know very much about Star Trek, I do geek out pretty seriously about Star Wars. And I work with some Trekkies. So sometimes I overhear things. But flying around in space without a lightsaber seems silly.

I like Star Wars a lot too, but I suspect it's because it has the best villains.

Versus... I think you should make a video of your annihalator workout motivational speech. Full Metal Jacket Sergent styleee.

On the other foot *winces* I am now walking both to and from work ( mother used to give me a lift there )

Today I have walked 10 miles ( 5 each way ) Mother gives me a lift to the leisure centre for my aerobics class (Wouldn't get there in time otherwise ) walked the 2.5 miles back home. So 12.5 miles approx today.

Tomorrow, I have to walk to and from the leisure centre, as that class starts later and I can make it in time by walking, so tomorrow will be 15 miles of walking as well as a bodybalance class ( Yoga Tai-chi and Pliates roilled into one )

Wednesday I will walk the 5 miles to work, and get a lift back with a workmate in order to get to my Bodypump ( weights ) class on time. He drops me off about 1/4 of the way there, so it's roughly 2 miles there, then 2.5 back. So nearly 10 miles in total plus weights class.

Thurs I will walk there and back (10 miles ), no classes or gym after . Just resting ( ahhhhhh)

Fri walk there and back (10 miles ) Gym after ( 5 miles ) though no treadmill or impact stuff.

Sat I will wake up late because I always do, and walk to and from the leisure centre ( 5 miles ) . Normal gym session.

Sun I haven't decided wether to do a swimming session or another weights class... we shall see... but there will be the 5 mile walk of course.

Christ tha's over 70 miles a week...I may have no feet left....
