Here we go again.

Mmm, that's quite a number of questions. Just a smidgen shy of an interrogation, from my experience (which, of course, is nill).

Ah, before I begin, let me apologize in advance for my lack of eloquence and general writing prowess. I've only poked my head into a few threads since joining, but from what I can tell, the users here are very firm in their belief in grammar and spelling. It's refreshing to see a community that promotes such skills, seeing as the rest of the Internet seems intent on making a massacre of the pitiful remains of the English language.

And now. . .

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
My hobbies. . . er, I don't think I'll get into those, as I'll likely be laughed off of the forum for them and such. As for an occupation, I spend my weekends doing pest control (on an island with little protective flora other than the odd cabbage palm in Florida during the summer; I go through a tube of sunblock a day).

2. Where are you from?
I think my rambling at the end of the first question may have given that away

3. Who is your favorite author?
. . . Again, I choose not to answer this, as he's certainly not "Gothic" material, nor are his books.

4. What are your favorite films?
Does "The Nightmare Before Christmas" count? I swear I'm not merely saying it because I'm on this particular site; I received it as a Christmas gift when it made its debut in the mid-nineties and adored it enough to learn how to play the scores on a cheap children's musical keyboard I'd gotten the same year (because I was/am an obsessive child).

5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
There will be no wedding, I assure you.

6. At your funeral?
If they can find the body, mmm. . . how about Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust"?

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
In a large, fiery sort of explosion, preferably of my own doing.

8. What kind of casket would you want?
Not necessary; a small urn would do nicely (or, knowing my friends, a Powerade bottle).

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
Anything black and shapeless, for the most part. T-shirts choke out all other things in my closet outside of a flamboyantly yellow Hawaiian shirt (worn to piss the hell out of my "Goth" friends on several occasions, generally when they force me into their "vampire" clubs) and a stuffy black gown worn only for my high school chorus class.

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
Nap time. Oh, how I took that for granted. . .

11. What's your favorite band?
. . . I'm not answering this, either. And if I do, it's probably not my favorite band, as I know well enough I'd be laughed at or flamed off of the board for it.

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
All high school, two semesters of junior college thus far (and an infinite number to go thanks to the ever-so-helpful people in the registration department). I will, however, be attempting a degree in medicine, focusing around pharmaceuticals and what have you.

13. Why did you join?
Pressured into it by my "Goth" friends (who, after some research on my behalf, are very much posers; I have not once claimed to actually be Gothic in any way, shape, or form. . . aside from joining this board, of course).

14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Female, though apparently eighty-percent of the population of my junior college thought otherwise upon our initial meeting.

I suppose I'll tack on "What, no avatar?" as well. I lack one momentarily because any and all of the ones I've made and used in the past would only serve to have me beat up and shoved into my locker. . . or whatever the Internet/bulletin board version of that is. Seeing as I'm rather uncreative and very, very green in the ways of the subculture this board is dedicated to, it seems unlikely that I will ever actually have one.

And with that, I bid you adieu so I may again wander from topic to topic without actually giving my opinion on the subjects they discuss.

You're too self-conscious.
Other than that, welcome.

You shouldn't be worried about what your favorite band is. The other day, someone put Yellowcard as their favorite band and there were no torches thrown. Anyway, welcome.

Oh, you are a bit self-conscious. Come now, we don't bite!

Well...I don't, at least.

You can tell us your various favorites, and I promise we won't "shove you in your locker" or any such nonsense. I, for example, like the band Flogging Molly. That's not gothic at all! I also like to read comic books most of the time. Which is not gothic. Just kind of silly.

Anyway, in my rambling way, welcome.

As long as whatever your favorites are are enjoyed in a melancholy and forlorn way, ANYTHING can be gothic!

I love Evanescence. And I have not yet been flamed for it. Or, if I have, it was too lame for me to remember. So come on, tell us!

Must... slit... wrists...!

Alas, I kid.

I wasn't expecting anyone to so much as peek into this thread, so I thank you all for the warm welcome.

My self-consciousness stems from my experiences on other boards where the users are much less forgiving about one having interests that are considered to be "stupid" compared to those of everyone else. I'm glad to see that this board is a bit different.

Er. . . as for my favorites. . . I don't think any of them can really be enjoyed in such a way, HellforgedX.

Terry Pratchett is my favorite author. I'm an avid Discworld fanatic, owning as much of the series as much local bookstore stocks (which, sadly, only seems to be about two-thirds of the whole collection) and trying to get my paws on the other spinoffs and junk relating to it.

So far as bands go, uhm. . . I like Dir en grey and Moi Dix Mois. I was unsure of the views of the other members on the subject of "JRock" as it seems to be a touchy subject whenever I bring it up elsewhere. . . which is why I generally don't.

Ah. . . I think flame-retardant foam might be better, actually. All of the flames I've ever faced have been rather oily (you know, if text can have texture. . . okay, that deserves a healthy flogging, I know), so water may actually make that worse.

Dir en Grey and Moi Dix Mois are ok bands.
We have many people that like Jrock in here.
I think it's only me and Maggz that really hate it, but it's more because many people lately seem to associate being goth with liking anything that comes out of Japan.
As for us being forgiving, we're not that forgiving. :P
But you didn't claim that your tastes were goth, which is the thing that gets on our nerves. We like 'non-gothy' people so long as they know what they're talking about.

Wow, I think that single sentence from you dispelled the majority of my anxieties about having joined this board. Huzzah!

Again, there's no way I could possibly be considered to be "Gothic" (there's a G1 My Little Pony perched on my monitor, for heaven's sake), and I'm well aware of that. . . even if others pin me as such merely because I have a preference for black clothing. It's not even good black clothing; I do all of my shopping at Goodwill.

With my musical tastes, I just happen to like how they sound. They could be Lithuanian for all I care (on that note, Russian singer Vitas has been growing on me recently). I just enjoy the music, not the look or the language or even the message, really. For the record, Dir en grey has progressively been getting worse in the past two years, or they have in my opinion. I love their older stuff, but the new stuff is just sort've. . . bleh.

Erk, I'll save my ranting for the music board.

Thank you again for not mauling me.

Welcome to the boards. I should have posted an introduction like this, I was stupid enough to reveal my pathetic music tastes. Bleh, too late for that.

I have Strawberry Shortcake stickers on my laptop.

As for my black clothing, I tend to get it from everywhere, but I can only really shop during the fall and winter when they have their Victorian/lacy/darkly coloured items out.

Goodwill and I have issues. I just go to random thrift stores now.
