Wow. I'm in Aus and I just saw some footage on TV. Apparently a lot of international flights have been cancelled, but that's hardly the worst of it.
I hope that you're alright over there.

I just read about the proposed referendum on my local news site... what. the. fuck?!
It sounds like it's going to drag on for a long time. I'm wondering why AUSAID or the UN hasn't made any comments or offers for help. I mean, yes, having outsiders in will weaken the political strength of the country, maybe, and there are precedents set for awful interventions left and right...
It disgusts me that affluent countries, including my own, often turn a blind eye to suffering, poverty, need, and persecution for the sake of preserving political ties or maintaining votes.
Does anyone have any news on this on their local channels/RSS feeds/papers? I'd be interested in seeing whether the stories are marginalised (after one day I had to deliberately search for this info. It stopped making top news on abc.net.au, because someone is playing tennis right now), or deliberately avoiding topics of international involvement, the safety of the citizens. Over here it's mainly basic descriptions and lists; two students shot, referendum suggested, etc. No comment on threats of electricity cutting or anything. I'm curious about what the rest of the world is hearing about this...

I've got the following RSS feeds:
BBC Front Page
CNN.com
Slashdot
and milw0rm
I've got one story on it:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7599715.stm
At least, I think that's it.
