Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

It was pretty rad. Andrew Eldritch is bald which is funny. There wasn't one time he was on stage that he didn't have a cigarette, too. I'm sad that they got rid of a bassist and just put all of the bass line into Dr. Avalanche. There are also two random chums who play guitars for them now. Er, thats when I saw them that is. It was a few years ago.

*flagrant coochflashing* I saw them last night! La la la la la la!
They were awesome. I loved it. It still hasn't really sunk in that I actually saw them live.
My boy and I were among the youngest there. Quite a few receding hairlines in the crowd.
I'll post pictures in a bit, once I have them uploaded...

Not including Eldritch? Ooooh. Did he make any bitter remarks about goths?

Nope (at least not that I heard properly).
XD Yes, Eldritch's hairline is definitely receded. He still sounds like him, though, and still wears aviators.
He's not actually completely bald, though, right? He just shaves the rest of it off?
People were gothed out to a variety of degrees. Everything from blatantly normal clothes, to Bauhaus Tshirt with jeans under a suit jacket, to all-out fishnets and PVC and stompy boots.
I want some stompy boots.
>.<I had to explain to my parents before I went that No, the Sisters of Mercy are not sewing machine metal...

I will see them for my first time December 30th! And at the same place I saw Siouxsie, so I know how to plot my navigation to the stage and get to where I can sneak a flash photo and pull back into the crowd before they know whose hand it was.

Photos, as promised.
This first one is of the general club setup before most people got there.

This is the warm-up band. I forget their name, but they are local Montreal people. The lead singer sounded a bit like Andrew Eldritch.

Aaaaannnnd... the Sisters themselves.

The songs I recognized included Temple of Love, Dominion/Mother Russia, Lucretia My Reflection, Vision Thing, Ribbons, Alice, First and Last and Always, Something Fast, Detonation Boulevard... and that's all I remember now.
I got a t-shirt, too.
And I really must thank my boyfriend for organizing and everything, and discovering that they were doing a tour in the first place. I'd have been lost on the whole booking of hotels and tickets and stuff, not to mention having no one to go with.

It makes me mentally twitch a bit to think of Andrew Eldritch as bald, but it's probably gothier than a combover. Not that Eldritch cares for us devoted goths *pouts*.
And anyway, he still sounds like him, so
I like his voice quite a bit.

I don't know much about the SoM and it seems Eldritch hates goths... Why?

Eldritch really needs to get around to coming to Osaka, like he says he wants too.

I finally saw them last night. Everything was exceptional besides the fact that the crowd could barely make out a word Andrew said. There must've been some kind of problem with the microphone, because everything he said and sang was mumbled and indistinct, and overtaken by Doktor Avalanche and the bassist and guitarist.
That is my one complaint though. It was dry ice galore, and the opening act was actually really talented, and the Sisters were amazing, and I just loved being there. I can't get over the fact that I was that close to Andrew, seeing him perform.

Mmmm he was rather mumbly in Montreal too, but it was still an awesome concert. Hmmm...
