I play with people's hair too. I do it to the guy I'm seeing all the time. Not sure that he's all that bothered about me doing it but he lets me do it anyway. Plus his hair is all curly so it's fun to watch it spring back when I pull it out straight

Are you sure? I don't think I posses a keen enough mind to be trusted with actively supporting my ideals. I'd like to say that I have a stronger sense of right and wrong, and am more useful to society fixing problems where I actually see them.

Wow I should have proofread that post before I hit submit and then got distracted (talk about not having the keenest mind), I really wish I had edited it before the time limit, it is really bugging me that I put "kneed" instead of "need".

I also want to say that I don't hate people for being indifferent, but I still hate indifference. I've been working with sexual violence prevention for nearly a decade and our biggest problem was how indifferent most people are. Most people think spousal **** is wrong (in fact I'd say 99% of the people I have met would agree that spousal **** is wrong) but there are people who don't, people who think it is a wife's duty to please her husband and unfortunately those people are a lot more vocal about their position. Thanks to the indifference of so many people it wasn't until 2005 that Virginia law fully recognized spousal ****.

That's where I'm stumped, though. After looking deeper into contested issues, I often find that I can agree and disagree from many perspectives. It's not that I don't form a clear concept of the situation, it's that I don't form a strong enough opinion to actively support any particular side. When I begin to lean one way, I will reevaluate (or second guess, if you want to call it that) myself and worry that I am making a misguided opinion.

Charity organizations and community service (I really shouldn't say that. I haven't had time I'm willing to share for that in years) are about the extent that I can confidently contribute towards. Like I said, I feel more comfortable looking out for a stranger in a bar then I do voting for something I don't completely agree with.

You don't just have to focus on the big stuff, and you certainly don't have to limit your voice to the "big" votes. When there isn't an option that you find acceptable then come up then tell people what you would find acceptable, and I don't just mean bitching to your friends, write to your representatives, find other people who share your views and work together.

I know what you mean. This is the sort of stuff that I feel comfortable doing something about. Well, not this specifically. I need to look at it more because I'm shamefully ignorant about that subject. I guess I hadn't given it much thought because I felt the conclusion was obvious, and I forget that this shit still does happen.

If you feel comfortable doing something at the state or local level then do that. I completely understand people being overwhelmed with politics at the national level, ideally everyone would be active at every level, but if you are active at any level that is far better than nothing, and in all honesty one person can make more of a difference at the local level.
