Religious faith is inimical to reason.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=hcyzkd_m6KE
This is a bitter moment for me, but this documentary was the straw that broke the camel's back. I have been trying for a long time to convince myself that there is some place that can be carved out in a rational world for religious faith, but I'm done now. There is no such place.
I think people have to choose either to think, or to bullshit themselves. I know what my decision is.

So is art.
Reason does not have to be used during 100% of our waking and sentient moments. One can do things because they feel good. Because we like to do things.
Reason serves man. Man does not serve reason.

Touche. Maybe I should limit myself to a somewhat less sweeping pronouncement:
Where it comes to discerning raw facts about our physical universe (like the origin and nature of some particular text), reason is the best tool in our box.

God is a concept to make the world have value. It requires faith to believe, for as Kierkegaard asks, what would we have but despair without it?
But that very fact makes God worthless to me, and so many others. The God of Christianity was made to satisfy the needs of the time, when simple human discovery was not enough. But is it more than that?

It is a bit interesting, but it's strange (considering that I go to a Roman Catholic school) that this denomination seems to be so much more different. It just goes to show you how everything you believe in has another theory that stands up to question it.

I think you have to take that video with a grain of salt. The guy who made it is a certifiable whack job. My father is a Mormon and I attended Mormon church for years as a child and young adult.
A couple of bits in the movie rang true, but most of it was not in tune with my experience of the church.

Yes, I agree, it is obviously biased against the LDS: the off key background music, the way it presents Jesus and Smith, it is propaganda. Someone feels threatened.
But I didn't see anything in the cartoon about the white salamander. Usually any attempt to discredit or poke fun at the LDS includes some comments about Smith listening to the salamander.

I'd make a comment about my opinion on religion, but there are too many nice Christians on this site. ^_^

As Eva O would say
"Children of the light, pray we get this right! Children of the light pray with all your might!"
And she's a christian too! ;~)
