Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Classic Gothic Rock Albums
Basically, I'm just wondering what would be considered classic Gothic rock albums, as in influential to the entire subculture. So far I'd say;
Bauhaus- Mask
Christian Death- Only Theatre of Pain
The Cure- Pornography
The Cure- Disintegration
The Cure- Faith
Siouxsie and the Banshees- Juju
Sisters of Mercy- First and Last and Always
Fields of the Nephilim- The Nephilim
Joy Division- Closer
Joy Division- Unknown Pleasures

Only Theatre of Pain - Christian Death
Dawnrazor - Fields of the Nephilim

You should - it's quite good. Most people probably would prefer Mask, but it's still good. Worth a listen. Don't expect it to be anything like Mask. It lacks the upbeat funk influences. More of a classic sound.

When you were talking about influences, I thought you meant The Doors, Steavie Nicks, and maybe Floyd.

It came out less that 10 years ago, but I figure I need to recommend it anyway, because Siouxsie is the lead singer...Try out the Creatures' Anima Animus. Very stylistically classical and a joy to listen to. It took me a little while to get into it (acquired taste), but it jams my heart nowadays.

Why? The title of the thread is "Classic Gothic Rock Albums."

The Mars Volta? Gothic rock?
Anyone else like Bauhaus' The Sky's Gone Out? It's been conspicuously left out of this thread thus far, but I'm a big fan.
I think we should vote in The Mission's God's Own Medicine as well.

The Sky's Gone Out is fun, especially "Third Uncle." Not my favourite Bauhaus album, but good nonetheless.
I'll second it.
