Illuminati.
New World Order.
Skull and Bones.
Freemasonry.
Cultism.
Is it all hogwash from paranoid conspiracists or d'you think there's some truth in the legends about them? Or could they all be stories made up by a real black brotherhood to keep us chasing after wild geese?
Dan Brown certainly managed to fulfil the third suggestion there, giving his readers some brilliantly fake, pretentious ideas of what secret cults are about. (I don't have much respect for that guy; he took some interesting conspiracy ideas and pumped them full of crap to make his books sell, and has ended up murkying the waters of conspiracy even further)

You know how they say that truth is stranger than fiction? It seems to me that when it comes to all these cools secret socities etc, the truth is boring and the fiction is interesting.
But, I'll be able to give a better opinion once I've finished 'The Secret Society Handbook'

I reccomend The Illuminatus! Trilogy to anyone that both loves and hates conspiracy theories.
But anyway, I believe conspiracy theories are all a bunch of Yoko Ono (pardon my vocabulary).
People are too stupid to be able to control half of the world.
Though, I won't deny I have seen the occasional fnord.

It's all crap. I happen to know quite a lot of Freemasons, my ex- stepfather is one, and although he's an asshole I've been with him to quite a few events at the Freemasons' and they were all pretty ordinary Christian hogwash (not trying to offend anyone, just stating my personal opinions). I've read many documents on the so- called conspiracies of these organizations, and most of these are so filled with basic misunderstandings of how things actually work that the rest of it just becomes hilarious, or, in the worst cases, boring and frustrating. Calling a Freemason, or most Illuminati, Satanic is just as silly as the PIU (Pink Invisible Unicorn) and really just shows the authors' own stupidity and ignorance. I can't believe that people really believe in this bullshit.

Not so much in modern times, but religions were the old "New World Order" as they looked harmless from the outside, in fact... they looked GOOD from the outside and the inside, yet they were perverted to make people hate or even kill others. This still happens... look at the islamic extremists... they take good people and twist their arm with perverted versions of mainstream religions and make them believe that they are doing something that is by all rights pure evil... such as kill in the name of a god(note: I do not in any way shape or form believe in hell, satan, etc... so when I say evil I mean something corrupt that mankind does that really is twisted by our self centered nature). Not that it says much... but to look at it a certain way there are billions of religious people who follow christianity or islam... they may not all fall to the tricks of extremist groups, but they do pledge their soul to a belief based on mans word.... In my mind this is more dangerous than actually having them kill others.....
AKA: organized religion is the most dangerous thing around as far as secret organizations.... weather they believe what they preach or just want to dip their hands in the cookie jars... I dont know.

Personally, I like the theory that all the worlds leaders are lizard men. Also, the Earth is really hollow and connected by a series of tunnels. Which, if that is the case...

yeah, but it also goes into the whole CIA/LSD thing, the kennedy assasination, moon landing, aliens, the new world order, the lizard people, the death of marilyn monroe, etc, not to mention serial killers, military dictators, the mafia, and haunted houses. al in all, I found it to be entertaining.
