I think it has to do with the "Red Scare" in the 50's. The American public basically got convinced that Unchecked Capitalism/Corporatism = Freedom.
We can't let the kids know that the Boston Tea Party was really about standing up to corporate dominance and the government that allowed it through tax breaks and the like, it was about standing up to a government that taxed US.
Because we CERTAINLY can't let the kids think that MAYBE it's a BAD idea to let these companies run amok and take all of our money, and monopolize our labor,
they might become communists!
