Funny how these things never make it into American History classes. A fascinating overview. I think I may try to find a reprint or something online for the book.

I think it has to do with the "Red Scare" in the 50's. The American public basically got convinced that Unchecked Capitalism/Corporatism = Freedom.

We can't let the kids know that the Boston Tea Party was really about standing up to corporate dominance and the government that allowed it through tax breaks and the like, it was about standing up to a government that taxed US.

Because we CERTAINLY can't let the kids think that MAYBE it's a BAD idea to let these companies run amok and take all of our money, and monopolize our labor, they might become communists!

You know, lately, I find myself getting reder and reder. I'm not ready to bite the communist bullet, but I'm beginning to think that the current liberal administration in the US is really not able to affect the kind of chage that we need. We really do need to see more radical leftists, communists, socialist, and anarcho-communists to throw their hats into the national debate, if for no other reason than making people realize that MAYBE forcing GE to actually pay it's taxes ISN'T a leftist extreme.
