Eternal Elysium, though they're more of a J-stoner-metal band.
Akira Yamaoka, though he's more of a J-dark-ambient guy.

So, um... I've helped you not one bit.

Yup, Dir en Grey, Aikaryu, Phantasmagoria, Malice Mizer, Candy Spooky Theater, I can't think of any more on the spot like this.

Concerto Moon is a bit more metal. There's also Japan X, but if you want to go for something more 80's I'd say Loudness.

Oh, it's "X Japan", not "Japan X".

These are some really good J-rock bands whose music is melodic and elegant.
  • Blood
  • Hizaki Grace Project
  • Moi Dix Mois
  • D
  • Rentrer en Soi
These are some heavier bands:
  • Dir en Grey
  • Vidoll
  • Gazette
  • Nightmare
  • Kagerou
If you're interested in older stuff, you could check out:
  • Luna Sea
  • Pierrot
  • Rouage
  • Fanatic Crisis
  • Laputa
And of course, it is essential that you go out and buy everything you can find by Malice Mizer.

Eve of Destiny and Schwarz Stein are amazing; I wish the E.O.D. stuff wasn't so impossible to come by.

Though Vidoll/old Diru/Kagerou/new GazettE are in no way heavier than the bands listed as more "melodic" .

LOL, it's true that all of them get pretty metallic at times.

The groups I listed in the 'heavy' category are the ones who perpetrate those screeching/gutteral vocal call and response bits and venture more often into Limp Bizkit territory (but look a million times better doing it.)

I actually had a hard time getting into Dir until I heard the 'Gauze' album; once I could listen to their noisy stuff in context with songs like Yokan, it all made sense to me.

I love this question.
Well, the bands below are not all Jrock, but they're all Japanese and great.

- Dir en Grey
- alice nine.
- Kagrra,
- An Cafe (I had written a whole rant about them but then my computer made Firefox quit so I lost it. And I'm not rewriting it.)
- The GazettE
- Screw
- Moi dix mois
- L'Arc~en~Ciel
- X Japan
- Vidoll
- 12012
- abdingdon boys school
- Ali Project

If you want to do regular J rock try The Pillows, L'Arc~en~Ciel, B'z, and basically anyone who's had a GOOD anime theme song. Good stuff that goths would enjoy would be Dir en grey(Personal favorite, try their old stuff first. Hearing the wrong song can TOTALLY turn you off). Malice Mizer is a must, beig a goth band themselves. BUCK-TICK is another good goth band and so is Kuroyume. MUCC rocks some good stuff too. Other than that it's good to find that stuff on your own.

Among the best are:
-Dir en Grey (definitely check them out)
-Yura Yura Teikoku
-Go!Go!7188
-Thee Mich elle Gun Elephant (there are no spaces between the second word, though I don't know why it's being asterisked out)

Btw. Malice Mizer isn't a goth band. They are a visual kei band (they said it themselves).

They are to themselves. They're not a goth band, but they carry the label and they bear a few of the fruits, so I gave it to them because goths would be interested. Mana calls them goth and has the gothic loli fangirls eating out of his hands(I hate them most of the time), but you're right, they aren't that goth at all.

I remembered that malice mizer emphasized on the fact that they were a visual kei band and not gothic. But come to think of it, I think they just said that so they would become more mainstream and appeal to the mass media.

My favorite j-rock band is Dir en Grey. But I also enjoyed the band that plays the second opening in Death Note. I forgot the name of the band, but the second opening is called "What`s up people".
Some other good bands I know are: Mr. Big, Metronome, X Japan, Guitar Wolf, and Electric Eel shock.

I'd say Dir en Grey is leaning more towards jmetal now, the used to be Vis Kei on the first couple of albums, but became repeatedly heavier through the years.

Should be worth mentioning that S.K.I.N is a mega-group consisting of Gackt (Malice Mizer), Myv (Miyavi), Yoshiki (X-Japan) and Sugizo (Luna Sea).
