Literature Please come visit. People get upset, write poetry about it, and post it here. Sometimes we also talk about books. |

Dream from the Aes Sídhe
I've made a world for only you to see,
so please, come drink with me.
We are from separate worlds, you and I,
yet much we share alike.
A ship once bore me out to sea
and its flames beneath the stars were free.
But from its ashes rose the thorns
that made me sleep beyond the morn.
And in my sleep I had a dream
that with a kiss you reigned supreme,
and claimed a sword from water's hand,
that weapon lost to modern man.
As I warned you then, take care,
lest the instrument you bear
cut through thorn and flesh alike,
as you strive to set things right.
If you believe in such a thing,
I'll sing a siren song to bring
your ship across the sea,
so that you may take me,
and wake me, from my slumber.

Neato! It's been a while since I've read Robert Jordan, maybe I should pick up WOT again.

Er...thanks, but wasn't WOT related. You'd be thinking of the Aes Sedai.

I looked up your title on wikipedia. Now that I know Aes Sidhe are banshees and shit I retract my previous comment. I hate your poem and, by association, have come to hate you as well. I am currently in the process of hiring an illiterate person to close my browser. May God have mercy on your soul.
JUST KIDDING Nice poem.

I must appreciate the sea and the thorns and the fires. I have known them all. Good stuff.

I love your comment, and by association have come to love you as well. I am currently in the process of hiring a professional stalker to follow you around and make you feel creepily obsessed over. May the Dagda have mercy on your soul.

I think it's a lovely poem, with delightful references to mythology. Normally I like a more intricate stanza, but this is great as it is.

This is a wonderful poem. The imagery is amazing. I think that perhaps I just read too much into everything, but I see so many things that remind me of old legends and folktales. Well, separate from the title. Heh. I saw bits that hinted of the story of Excalibur, Sleeping Beauty, the old saying Be careful what you wish for", the Little Mermaid, etc. I'm not talking the sugar coated Disney stuff, but the real stories. Like I said though, I think that perhaps I simply read too far into the poem. I liked it, though, either way.
