Anybody know where I can buy green grenadine (or clear so I can add food coloring)? I want to make Tequila Sunrises with green instead of red in them.

I figured out that rather than trying to cook up a syrup recipe from scratch (and I've had several of them sent to me that involve boiling sugar and water and so on), I'm just going to try to dilute Karo clear corn syrup with water to get the right consistency, then add green food coloring. That should work!

I just bought one of these.

http://www.racksandstands.com/asp/sh...asp?sku=WS1003

That's the most money I've ever spent online and the only time I've ever bought anything like that unseen. We'll see what it looks like when it shows up. If it's any good I intend to use it as a model and make a couple more myself at a fraction of the price.

I've just spent the last 2 hours reshuffling fish around and taking tanks down to make room for a 12 gallon upgrade for my male betta. The females are now in the community, and he's in this. Mother is pleased bcause I now have only 2 tanks running ( but my spares now total 6 tanks from 12 gals down to 3 gals )

Bronson is absolutely overjoyed with his new house! Lots more space, he's been flying up and down like a mad thing , darting in and out of his plants, trying to attack snails and popping in and out of his cave ^___^

A friend of mine was telling me he saw another "Ringworld" book apart from the four in the series (one my favorite science fiction series), but I can't find it.

Lucky lucky little man you have there!
But I've always been under the impression that Bettas don't like such a large tank?

My man is re-working his finned community. I get to shop for a tank stand for him this week (after I enter his spec requests into my phone that is). Then the tank will be set up in our front room.

HAHA! Complete and utter MYTH. There's any number of idiots who'll tell you they "don't need much space because in the wild they live in puddles"

Wrong. A vast number die in those self same puddles in the dry season. For the rest of the year the wild form of betta spelndens inhabits massive rice paddies, slow moving streams and pools, all of which definitely contain more than a couple of gallons.

You need 5 gallons minimum for a betta, and heavily planted too - That's a big mistake a lot of people make when adding a betta to a "large" tank, the fish often sulks and hides away and doesn't eat, so they presume he doesn't like the bigger space and shove the poor sod back into the 2 gallon tub of death. What they actually dislike is too much open space. You need lots of plants for the fish to hide in and rest on, and maybe a cave also to go in.

I prefer to think of them as being rather agoraphobic. So the more plants you have in to enclose them the better, and they still get the full benefit of a proper amount of water space to dilute their waste.

Another ridiculous myth is that they don't need a filter "because they can breathe air ". Wrong again. They can breathe air as a survival mechanism when their native water start to dry up and lose O2, but for the rest of the time they use their gills like any other anabantid, being able to breathe air doesn't make them magically immune to their own waste . Essentially they're no different to gouramis and need a filter all the same, albeit a very gentle one with low or adjustable flow output like a sponge filter.

The amount of times I have to make a post like the one above abpout bettas on fish forums is unreal. But a lot of people in the regular one I'm on have started to upgrade their tanks. I don't care how much I have to badger them at it, I can't bear to see inhumane treatment like that.

This is not a great time of year to be looking for a job. I'm hoping things open up a little when we get past the holidays next week.

Tell me about it, my hours might get cut and depending on how many I lose I might have to look for another job, but January is a bad time for that, I was job hunting last January and it was horrible *sigh*

Well, there is this place nearby looking for waitresses, but I don't think I have the patience for that.

On the plus side, minimum wage is going up by twenty five cents in January, and I think by July it'll be up to ten dollars an hour.
