Current and future state of the U.S.

I haven't been around here in quite some time, due to various life issues, events, etc. Anyway...

Lately I've been watching a lot of news, on various channels, trying to comprehend what the hell is going on and really wondering where the hell we're headed. So far, the future looks pretty grim for this country.

So I'm wondering, if anyone cares to contribute, what the theory is regarding the near future of the U.S. Are we headed for a complete collapse of society as we know it? Is there any logical way of fixing it that doesn't involve all-out civil war? Most of our states are bankrupt, or very close to it, and borrowing more money isn't going to do anything but increase our already impossible debt, which is somewhere around $14 tril.

If this country does collapse, where will that leave the rest of the world? Should we even care, considering how vulnerable we'd be at that point to those that are waiting and salivating for that day to come.

I hear theories about us breaking into 3 or 4 provinces or territories, initially beginning with various states succeeding from the union and each eventually establishing their own form of government. Which would basically throw us back to the 1700s in terms of political "what the hell do we do now?" I don't know how valid this theory is at the moment though, but considering the threat of some states already in the earliest stages considering succession (it seems largely based on the very unpopular healthcare reform, immigration, and just being completely fuckin broke - it could also be wild speculation), it is a real possibility.

And how many really think about these issues, versus those that automatically assume the U.S. is too strong to cave?

Any theories on what might help ease some of the stress this country is dealing with?

Most of the states where there is talk of secession would be totally on their ass without federal assistance so it is pretty damn unlikely, though I wouldn't completely discount the possibility.

Your over exaggerating, we had the depression not so long ago and we moved passed it. What could possibly bring this idiotic idea/thought in your head.

Not trying to over exaggerate anything. Not sure where you get that from. 80+ years ago is a bit more than not so long ago, and situations were very different than today.

States would definitely be in a tight spot , but not completely helpless. It should definitely be a last resort. I think if any of them are in a position to do so it would be Texas, but even they would have a difficult time.

It's not a conspiracy theory, it's a matter of looking around and wondering what can be done to fix, or at least greatly improve, our current economy so that we don't completely cave in, cause that's exactly where we're headed, but no one seems to want to admit it. So the question remains how can we move forward without repeating the same mistakes?

Your just saying things that weren't even thought of, no one has to admit to anything because of the current state that this country is in. Its less likely that this country with fall because of its issue. So take your theories and shove em to where ever you found them because the last time I check Gnet does not deal with economic issues.
plus, your starting to sound like one of those ridiculous people who talk about 2012 and of mankind ending.

I can't believe I'm saying this but OnyxBat is totally right. It's just a matter of common sense.

You fucking say it's just "looking around on how to fix the economy" but then it's laughably followed by proclaiming that it's because it's about to fully cave in?
Civilization will collapse and the union will dissolve?
Man, you make me feel glad I actually majored in political science; I wouldn't wanna be ignorant enough to say such nonsense.

P.S. we just got out of a depression. It's sad that you can only think of the Great Depression when someone mentions a depression.

Ah, you mean economic issues that don't support socialism and government hand-outs. Awesome.

2012 has nothing to do with it.

"At this point you may be tempted to think that America has been through extremely tough economic times before (The Great Depression for example) and came through them okay.

So what is so different now?

Well, the truth is that the character of the American people is dramatically different. At the time of the Great Depression, the American people were tough, self-sufficient people who knew how to live off the land. Today, most Americans are weak, spoiled little children who will throw a temper tantrum whenever anyone tries to take their toys away. The character of the American people has been decaying for decades, and there is no way that the current crop of Americans has any chance of weathering a horrible economic depression the way Americans back in the 1930s did.

Already we are seeing early signs of what the rest of America could soon be like. The city of Detroit is a rotting, crime-ridden war zone that has a "real" unemployment rate of somewhere around 40 to 50 percent. The state of California has become a cesspool of gang violence, rampant unemployment, rising foreclosures, unchecked drug dealing, and depressing economic decline. Even in New York City we are seeing early signs of what is ahead. Residents are quite alarmed about the dramatic rise in violent crime that is happening throughout the city. Many New Yorkers were convinced that the days of "The Rotten Apple" were behind them, but economic problems are going to cause an increase in crime in just about any city.

But it just isn't crime that is on the rise. Millions of normal, law-abiding Americans are angry. This anger is coming out in various ways - including the Tea Party protests that are sweeping the nation. The majority of the American people are frankly disgusted with the government, and the approval ratings for both major parties continue to hover around record lows. As things continue to get worse for the U.S. economy, the anger of the American people is going to continue to rise.

All of this is causing many in the U.S. government to view "troublemakers" inside the United States as one of the greatest threats to national security. In fact, according to FBI Director Robert Mueller, "homegrown terrorists" represent as big a threat as al-Qaeda..."

The 4 Key Reasons an Economic Collapse is Likely Imminent

The U.S. has unprecedented, massive amounts of current and coming debt.
Foreign countries have experienced their own crises, and they cannot offer added levels of debt funding for the U.S. Even if they could, they are unlikely to do so.
Productivity is declining, and everything the government is doing is further hurting productivity.
The U.S. is printing unprecedented, massive amounts of money and no longer has an ability to control inflation and deflation.
1. The U.S. has unprecedented, massive amounts of current and coming debt.

Over $11.4 trillion in current debt and growing
$1.8 trillion deficit in current budget - $9.3 trillion over next decade (likely to be higher)
Outstanding future debt of $43 trillion to $102 trillion from entitlements
Debt Comparison to U.S. GDP
A. Over $11.4 trillion in current debt and growing

U.S. federal debt is now over $11.4 trillion. As this graph is slightly outdated, you can imagine how far off the graph the line will need to go to chart the increase....

"The risk here is collapse of the dollar's value, leaving anyone with dollar holdings and earnings with nearly worthless money. Add to that risk the precursor to collapse, which would be bank closings and suspension of credit card usage. A medium of exchange is necessary for commerce. If your medium of exchange becomes worthless, your ability to engage in commerce will rely only on barter. And, for most individuals, barter is a very limited medium of exchange. What would a normal city-dweller take to the grocer to exchange for food? You likely have nothing the grocer needs...."

This is barely a scraping of what can be found if you bother to do any research. Yet they're all conspiracy theories.

Of course, because CNN and MSNBC are so much better at reporting on the "real" facts. That is, if you consider Charlie Sheen's trainwreck or the latest pop-culture bullshit to be newsworthy while ignoring the rest of what's going on in the world that actually matters. The only CNN reporter I have any real respect for is Anderson Cooper. But hey, let's completely discredit the only news network that has the highest ratings, cause of course they always lie. I'm a gun-totin', truck drivin, redneck GAY conservative (yes we exist and there's a lot more of us than you think), that supports (aspects of) the tea party movement and a FREE society with LIMITED GOVERNMENT - something that a socialist can never comprehend. And I have been known to blare the cruxshadows in my 4x4, but I'd much rather play gaga when i'm out muddin, cause she's hotter and her beats sound better.

I don't claim to be the political expert that you seem to think you are, and I didn't create this thread to bash anyone or throw insults. I was asking an honest question, yet none of you seem to be able to grasp that concept, or offer any constructive feedback - all you seem to know how to do is berate those that don't agree with your fantasies of how the world "should" be. A perfect example of the socialist mentality - condemn those that disagree.

I'm not condemning you for disagreeing. I'm condemning you for beign a dipshit.
Case in point, I never defended MSNBC or CNN, but you're too fucking stupid to think beyond that dichotomy.

The Great Depression almost looked like society was collapsing but really just having a temporary downfall, that's why I made the reference. And the recent depression is not as epic as the great depression.

I was talking to him. It's obvious you were talking about the recent depression, but that fact completely went over his head.

They maybe "on their ass", but at least its their OWN ass. This is in fact the whole point of secession.

Especially when you have a fed that won't do its job, like keeping out illegal immigrants.

WTF are you talking about "saying things that weren't even thought of"; what exactly are you referring to? You are obviously watching too much mainstream media and are therefore ignoorant as to what's going on. Let me try a test.

Are you familiar with the word "bail-out"? In what context have you heard this word? Yes, that's right, connect the dots, slowly, one by one, that's it, yes, yes, ....

And another thing. Who the hell are you to say that Gnet doesn't deal with economic issues? So Gnet does not pay bills? Does not have a bank account? Does not do business with its advertisers? Shall I continue to make a mockery of your comments?
