The Music Machine "Turn On: The Best Of..."
OK OK I know this isn't a commentary on a book. It is, in fact, a little review of an album I managed to order by a band called the Music Machine- a mid to late 60's band from the California garage band circuit.
So how is it?
Well, normally I can't really dig the Beatles BUT I did dig their cover of 'Taxman'. That and the cover of '96 Tears' by ? & the Mysterians. Upon listening to it you immediately recognise where the punk bands that rooted in the 60's came from. Lotsa fuzzy guitar, insanely nice drumbeats, hooky basslines and organ parts and a very Twilight Zone-y feel (especially with the song 'Come On In'). And plus Sean Bonniwell does a knockout job with the lead vox.
Definitely a must have for fans of the Damned, the Stranglers, the Cramps, or frankly anyone in general (yes it is that good).
Sadly enough, you'll prolllllly have to special order it from yer local record store.
But still-- FIVE FUCKING STARS *****
