Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Virgin Prunes
I didn't see a Virgin Prunes thread. There has to be some Prunes fans on here. They're a favorite of mine. In my oppinion (and the oppinion of most I've talked to) "...If I Die, I Die" is their best album. Their best songs come right off of that album. Songs like 'Pagan Lovesong', 'Baby Turns Blue', 'Walls of Jericho', 'Caucasion Walk', and 'Theme for a Thought'. I've also noticed that they're the most pidgeon-holed band ever. No one can just say that they're Goth rock or Deathrock which, come on... they are. Sure they're very theatrical, but when I've seen they're genre put down by fans its always "Post-punk/pre-proto theatrical goth" Why complicate things? They're just awesome.

My favorite song is Love Lasts Forever.
The Virgin Prunes are great, but some songs are just too weird, not in a good way, but in a 'what-the-hell' kind of way.

Pagan Love Song is the only song of their I like, the rest are just annoying.
I vote they're post-punk.

This is true. I like their actual 'songs' more. Alot of their abstract stuff is hard to listen to which is why I like the last few tracks on '...If I Die, I Die' the best. They're actual songs.

I like the Virgin Prunes enough. I haven't listened to them as much as I'd like to, but I know enough to know I like them.
I've never heard, however, this odd stuff you're referring to. What's it like?

Well, they have a song called Brain Damage. And it's literally what it's called: retarded voices.
On the fair side, when it comes to real songs by them, they're gods.

Are they making the voices or did they record retarded people? That's a little...I don't know, but it doesn't sit well with me.

Please define a "real" song.

A song like 'Walls oh Jericho' is a "real" song as opposed to stuff like 'Fado' or 'Bau-Dachong' which are just kinda weird, I guess.

Goth, I LOOOVVVEEE the Virgin Prunes. I love their dark, surrealisitc, abstract style-it's true beauty. They got Dublin post punk scene to the goth scene, in my opinion. The W word is truthfully meaningless to them, and perhaps it is to me. Perhaps is I was a band itself I'd be a mixture of the Virgin prunes, Christian Death, and Bauhaus

Have I not posted here yet? I'm a sorry goth. *cuts self with broken lollipop*
I fucking LOVE these guys. They're my absolute favorite gothic rock band of all time, except of course... Christian Death. They do come very close, however. Their songs border on parody much like Sex Gang's, but each one is so unique in its own way. Some of them are fucking miserable, some of them are surreal, some of them are ironic; upbeat with macabre subject matter, kind of like "Peek a Boo" by Siouxsie & the Banshees. If you haven't checked them out yet, you better do so soon!
My favorite tracks by them are "Ulakanakulot", "Pagan Lovesong", "Caucasian Walk", and "Baby Turns Blue".
For those of you interested, I've done a cover of "Caucasian Walk" that you can check out soon on my band's myspace page. You can, of course, access that via my signature.

Goth, Draco I agree! Sex Gang and Virgin prunes always come in a VERY close tie with your favourite band.
