Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

Changing my wardrobe...?
So, currently my style is sort of punk-ish more than goth...but I am increasingly attracted to goth fashion, and want to move my wardrobe a little more in that direction. I'm only 14 and I don't want to come off like a baby bat who is just trying their very hardest to look GAWTH, because that's not what I'm about. Another issue is that my parents are worried about me wearing anything too "sexy"...they've said this about fishnets, black lace, chokers, and heavy makeup. And I mean, I don't really care what they think about my clothes, but I don't want to come off that way either, since I'm really quite a prude. I really love black lace and chokers though. But I try not to wear fishnets or do my makeup heavy in a sexy way rather than a goth/punk way (if that makes any sense). Anyway, I guess what I'm looking for are suggestions about where to get clothes, good basic items to have, what not to do, etc...

Do you have any pics or something to show the kind of look you are going for? You can find plenty of great clothes in very normal stores (personally I shop a lot at Target) so your parents may be less put off than they would if you were shopping somewhere like Hot Topic and chances are you will pay a lot less for something of higher quality. Also learn to sew, even if all you ever do is alter clothing, it will allow you to make something unique and it will save you money.

Eh, I did look for an appropriate thread, but I gave up after a few pages...is there a search option I'm missing? Besides, I didn't want to post on a dead thread.
Thanks for the tips

Actually there is a search feature, it is under and slightly to the left of your notifications.

Dead threads are okay to bring back so long as the information is relevant. Furthermore, had you found the threads you need not post a response of your own 'cause everything you're asking is already there.

Now I don't see how I could have missed the clearly labeled search tab...oh well. Hadn't thought of the bit about not needing to post on a dead thread, but an excellent point. Thanks for the help with this stuff, I'm new to the whole thread thing...
