I'm about to do a possibly bad idea.

OK. I haven't done this in YEARS but...

My hawk. I'm thinking about dying the proper hawk black. No biggie, I've done that before.

The sides... I'm thinking of bleaching blond/white.

Tips? Cause I was thinking bleaching it, giving it a good conditioning, then following up with hydrogen peroxide.

What say you, G.net?

I probably wouldn't do the hydrogen peroxide.

I concur with PoS, could dry out your hair, damage it, and make it look orange. A friend of mine used it once and we called him pumpkin head until it grew out, and it took forever to do so.

If it's dyed already, then for your own sake forget it. However, if it is not, go for it, but be warned, it could turn orange. Don't bleach it straight away again if it does, wait a week or two. Otherwise your fried hair just won't be able to take anymore bleach and it will do little more than just burn your hair more.

Well, I'm thinking about going white.

So hopefully, a couple of bleachings and purple toner will do that.

Well, if they don't work and you still want to try the peroxide, test it out first on a small section of hair to see what happens (like that allergy test you're *supposed* to do with hair dye)

Bleach it as much as you want, short sides can withstand anything. I use Virgin Snow by Manic Panic and it silvers out the yellow perfectly. Depending on whether you've already had them dyed black in the past or not, it should take no more than two to three 20-minute bleachings with regular high vol. bleach.

You're going to end up with exactly the same hairstyle as me by the way.

Yeah? I'm thinking about doing 2 two hour bleachings and then purple tonering it. But if Virgin Snow works, I'll do that.

I wouldn't go two hours with bleach in unless you want weirdly stretchy hair. At the very least you should cut it into half-hour sessions with conditioning inbetween.

And Virgin Snow is just a purple-based toner. If you can find something cheaper that works it'd probably be just as good.

Well... I don't want to nuke my hair. That's what I meant. Just a couple actual bleach sessions that make sense.

Also, as a tip.
I wouldn't do it all at once. Bleach it, let it rest for a week and bleach it again, to reduce the strain on your hair. You might want to wear a hat in between sessions, but that's the only way I know how to get that stark white.

I agree on stretching it out. Not just for the sake of your hair, but your scalp. Bleach burns are a bitch if you get some on your scalp and it sits there a while. Good tip, give it a rinse in diluted white vinegar, about 3 tbs to a cup of water, it restores the PH of your hair after the bleach and helps close up the cuticle again so its not just open and susceptible to damage. That does sound pretty awesome though, make sure to post pics when its done.

OK... status update....

My hair all over is Malfroy blond with leeloo pink/orange strands.

Now that was just with one bleaching. I bleached it for about an hour and ten minutes at most.

So... if I go over this with dye striper or color striper, would it make it... white?

What colour was it beforehand?

I'm not sure about colour stripper on hair that's been bleached that much since it's pretty damaging. I'd just bleach it again (for no more than 20-30 minutes) in a few days if I were you, and use a fuckload of conditioner every day until then.

Also when it comes to putting toner in, do it right after the final bleaching so the hair is so starved for moisture it'll suck it all up like a sponge. Then leave it in for as long as possible. I usually go for about an hour or two.

Well... What about Manic Panic Virgin Snow? I DIDN'T use that. I'm going to give my hair about a few days and then bleach it again. Surprisingly, my hair took it rather well. It doesn't feel damaged at all, but does feel... kinda tired. Get my drift?

But now, it's deff a natural blond with LeeLoo highlights.

Before, it was a dark brown/black sides with an almost cherry/brown RED hawk.

Bleach damage is exhaggerated, probably by people who don't know how to use it properly. I bleached the black out of a section of my hawk over the last few weeks and it's still soft and strong as ever.

At this rate the Virgin Snow / whatever toner you use should definitely get it silvery white, if the next bleaching doesn't get it there already. From red and dark brown that's a pretty good result.

Yeah...

I ordered some Virgin Snow toner. Should get it in a few days.

So... I might end up bleaching it a couple days before I get the toner. Is that bad? Because I'm not sure how this toner madness actually works.

I've used the Virgin Snow toner and it works better than any I've tried if you want a stark white. I only did skunk stripes a while back, and bleached to blonde for a few weeks then got bored with it, and then used it to go white. Shouldn't be a problem at all with time in between. Hope you like the results!

OK, so to clarify...

How does this toner work? Say I bleach my hair again and then a couple days later, I get the toner. Do I just put the toner on my hair for a long ass time and rinse it out?

I'm kinda nervous about using the toner because I want to do it RIGHT the first time.

So the game plan is to bleach again in a few days... then a couple days later, use the toner. Is this going to fly?

I think you leave it in for about 30 minutes. Beware though, toners usually wash out after about 15 washes or something like that :/

The toner is going to deposit violet/blue tones in your hair which will neutralize the yellowy orange that results from bleaching. Mine did start to fade back to yellow after about a month, but I didn't need it all and I just applied it again for about an hour and rinsed, problem solved. If you don't need the whole jar, save it for any touchups. If at any time you are in doubt, please do a strand test first just in case you aren't too keen on the results or to judge how long you need to leave it on for. HTH!

Yep, everything Meezerosity said.

I treat toner like any other semi-permanent dye. Leave it in for as long as I can be bothered to (usually more than an hour), then touch it up with another application when it starts to fade.

I went from black to white ages ago. Bleach damage isn't as horrendous and common as people claim it to be.
Toner is good, and you can also get toning shampoo.
