Let's see....
As explained in my introduction, I am not a Gothic.
Even though I've allways had a special attraction for this culture or at least what I see of it as an outsider,
I don't actualy know a lot about it.
I have my own image of the "gothic world" but I might be mistaken so I wanted to ask all of you a simple (or maybe not so much) question:
To you, what is the Gothic philosophy made of?

Because:
a) There is this one search engine called google that would easily answer your question on what the "goth" stereotype is.
b) About 50% or more of the people who join this forum have asked the same question.
c) I can't figure out which of you annoyances, are actual trolls.
It's clown shoes.
Oh and I'm cramping and annoyed.

It's not a google answer I'm looking for it's the answer of the concerned people. Plus I don't care about stereotypes it's your idea of the philosophy that I'm interested in...
b) About 50% or more of the people who join this forum have asked the same question.
That's fair enough, in that case I'll go and search for it.
c) I can't figure out which of you annoyances, are actual trolls.
I don't mind being one if that makes your day. But I'm not going to enter in that non sense crap with you.

You're a dweeb.
Oh and I highly doubt very many people are "concerned" with your question.

To me, the goth subcultue is not about philosophy or art, it's about the music.
So Gothic philosophy, that's a matter of definition. If you define it by the people around today called goths, then I'd say it doesn't exist.
If you refer to a time period, then I haven't the slightest clue.
I am not actually part of the Goth subculture though. I am more of a metalhead really.

For fucks sake....
Goth is a type of music. End of . It has fashions/dress styles attached to it, and a lot of people enjoy it. Same as metal, rock, punk, and many other sorts of music.
You either like it or you don't. The fashion is not compulsory . It has no philosophy. It's not a religion. It doesn't "come from within". You are not born like it.
Now shh.

They're just testing you, Isaloween. Only true goths are allowed to know the gothic secrets of the elders. Stay dark, stand firm in the face of their duplicitous insistance that no such philosophy exists, and all will be revealed.

I agree with honey, but I just think its not only music its a life style a very old lifestyle (so old cause we are so awsome) that changes so then there is no direct "philosophy" about you just make it into something that fits you. Yeah you like the music but you dont like the style or you hate the life style and still love the fashion etc. Its not like its a cult.

You're included with the new ones, Onyx.
Jesus, xjin, I'm sorry for being so blunt with you; today you look like fuckin' Indhira Gandhi. Hell, Tam is older and more intolerable, and you're gradually saying less and less ignorant stuff.
Kudos. It's sad that a realization comes through a tragedy of a dipshit plague, but any time is a good time for an apology.

Isaloween, I'm going to answer as objectively as possible. IF you're still offended that's your fault, not mine:

That's a bullshit question. There's no "Gothic" philosophy and whoever says there is probably doesn't know who the fuck Andi Sexgang is so they're not exactly the best resource outside of needing a breathing doorstop.

Well, when someone makes an... unfortunate... thread, they deserve to be told. Repeatedly until it's solidly stuck.
Heck, I've made some pretty fucking retarded threads too, and all the flaming was.. well good for my level of retarded posting.

Well well... firstly, thanks to Timeless Rebellion; honeythorn ( even if she was kinnda pissed ) Apathy's_Child and OnyxBat for attempting to answer the question in a, lets' say, tolerant way.
I'm not too sure to understand why such a simple question can become such an anoyance for some, and not sure to understand either why these same people just don't ignore the thread or even me! if I'm such a "dweeb, troll..." or whatever else.
I don't mind at all being criticised or even insulted, it just goes straight above my head so please have fun.
Just take in conciderantion that I am in no case here to piss you off. this is in no way my purpose. I might be clumsy in the questions I ask or in the way I ask them, but I'm not there to mess up the place.

I am in no way offended. what could make you think that?... If it's my silence, I'm just not on here 24/7.
Sinjob: For the Jesus fucking christ, I'm sorry, I admit, sometimes I'm thinking too loud. For the shoes and such, that wasn't my post.

unfortunate thread? What's unfortunate? I was just asking a simple question! I just wanted to try and have a "serious" talk about the subject... Mea maxima culpa!
Anyway... What I meant by Goth philosophy was more like, Is there a specific Gothic way of thinking (I might be clumsy here again) a specific state of mind or call it however you want... but anyway... never mind... no hard feelings!

The whole goth thing only came about after around 1979 so NO, not remotely old in the slightest. Name aside it has nothing to do with the historical tribes/people known as the goths ( Ostra and Visi ) .
It's not a lifestyle. NO ONE lives, breathes, eats and shits goth all day every day. No matter how much Siouxsie they listen to or how much black they pile on. We all have lives outside of the music. Jobs, school, kids, hobbies ect.
The music, clothes and shows are all a nice addition to our lives but they are not all consuming, and nor should they be. That would be a terrifically dull existance.

NO. Because it's simply a type of music. Like Jazz, or dance, or metal ect ect. Ok you might listen to it a LOT, and like to dress however it is you dress, but it's not something that controls your every waking thought and moment, and if it does you should really see a shrink because that's far from healthy.

Well, if you had done the research, you would know just why your thread is very much unfortunate.
I am not trying to tell you that you are stupid or anything, heck, I didn't do the research properly when I started either.
But for your own sake, read some sites, research the music.
You'll soon come to realize that the gothic subculture is about the music, nothing more.
There is no gothic way of thinking, there is no philosophy or special kind of litterature, there is only the music.
Even the clothing is optional.

Oh, but jazz is something lived. It's not just hearing music.
Then you got things like punk which is obviously more than just listening to punk music.
Goth just happens to not be like that; it's not a lifestyle. At most it's a weekend night scene.
