It's still crap. But, if you liked Ouran, you should definitely look up Hourou Musuko. It's a more serious anime, but still good.

Ouran is pretty funny and brilliant when its being a parody. Once it starts taking itself seriously, then it sucks.

If we are talking just series ...
Ghost In The Shell S.A.C is the best 'thinking mans' anime.
Wolf's Rain was great on story and atmosphere.
Serial Experiments: Lain was awesomely eerie and underrated.
Evangelion is like the quintessential epic.
Many anime now are more style than substance though.
...
But my person fav is rather cliche, but will always be Cowboy Bebop!! The epitome of understated cool. All the right elements. It demands respect. It is the series to expose to anyone whose ultimate concept of anime is Pokemon.

I grew up watching Toonami and Adult Swim for my anime so I got a list that's too long to list.
Right now, I'm watching new stuff on the revived Toonami like Samurai 7 and I just recently got into Ouran High School Host Club(God, that show is hilarious).

Not my favorite, but I've been watching Gasaraki off and on, and I like it so far.

My favorite series goes to Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood over the original anime, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, and Kenshin; currently all seasons but the last season are on Netflix. There are maybe a few more western nuances I could've wanted, but it was closer than most animes get. I don't think the character development could have been any better, and I loved it.

re:Whats your favorite anime show?
After a long day of coding, what anime to you sit down to to relax your mind, and if you do, which were those really exceptional ones that you have seen? My personal favorite list is longer but out of what i have seen, the best are:
IRIS

I haven't had that many opportunities to catch a variety of anime - poor internet and limited money to spend on it. But from what I have seen I'd have to say...
Mirai Nikki, Black Lagoon, Chobits, and Deadman Wonderland.

Wolf's Rain, Inuyasha, and Rurouni Kenshin. I get teased way too often for liking Inuyasha and I don't know why. I like fantasy, and that series happens to be part of the fantasy genre (at least I think it is), so haters can just bite me for all I care.
