Celebration
Lay black roses gently at my feet
scattering thorns in my hair,
Tiny droplets of your blood
will let me know that you were there.
Celebrate my death
for I've finally been set free
These dead eyes of mine
forever will now see.

ennui - loved that one. The expression is wonderful, and it flows. It grips you with meaning.

I did this poem when i was ten.
"These words, these phrases they cut deep, deep and hard.
They are never shallow cuts. They piers your heart, break it into peaces.
This will never end, it will go on and on.
The pain will live for ever."
If you don't like it its ok, I was young when I wrote it.

This is another on I did when I was 12 or 13 with my sister, she was 13 or 14.
Your only chance
"Only one chance you have to
Do right is to do wrong.
When you try to fix my broken
Heart, it will fall
And shatter into peaces.
The lies, your lies, they
Build up and come out as
Hate and anger.
When I fall, your not there to pick
Me up, you Look back and walk away.
Then I know you’re really gone,
Gone forever, gone far
Far away.
Your only chance is gone".
By: Tricia & Shara
Once again if any of you don't like it, it's ok.

My poems are not all necessarily dark, foreboding, or even Gothic.
This one, however, may be one of the closest.
Truant Skies
The morning star slept late
on a day the sun forgot
Dreary Dawn yawns above
slinking shadows
on the barren beach
A softer sexed silhouette ponders winds wayward
while waters wash away the cares of cruel tomorrows
Soul wrecked she awaits the kicking sleep
Her mind is a dancing knife
slicing shards of spirit
Emptiness shares her sandy
sarcophagus stained scarlet
Nothing new under the truant sky
Hate smiles on
Bored actually
I have a lot more, most of them worse than this. So I'll spare you the lot, but with a psuedonym like "A Simple Poet", I simply could not join a literary messageboard without dropping at least one sample of verse.

I'm a bit of a formalist, so if you are referring to the stanza breaks ... you could have something there. But otherwise, it is what it is. Go ahead, slice it up. I'm rather thick skinned and understand the value of thoughtful criticism. Thanks for your review.

Interesting.
I've had this poem reviewed by others (many of whom are literary neanderthals) and nobody had ever recognized the first stanza as being a problem. They generally disliked the last one. But as I look at it, I think I could even axe the first stanza entirely and perhaps retain a stronger cohesion to the piece.
Very interesting indeed. Thanks for your comments.

Here is my latest piece. I had to share it in a mandated poetry introductory class that I somehow overlooked when registering and skipped ahead to the Poetry 1 class first. Anyway, this class seemed to like it a lot....
So I knew I needed help because I sure as hell do not trust the input of students in a ground level intro course. Hopefully, that maniac from Queens will not derail the critque of this poem as he/she/it did my previous post.
When Turtles Yawn
sometimes
while not touching souls
I still thrive
like toungeless turtles
yawning with timid disquietude
Blinking back their blank speech
afeared of fathomless lights
deeps of hand shakes and
disingenuous courtesies
rippled
in pools of shimmering moments
my own clammy claw cannot clasp such sunny skins
all awash
in laughing waters bright
splashing
leaping
mere inches beyond
my insular island of shattered shells
for I am
and will ever be
far too ugly inside
(by: W. Silverwight from The Universe Next Door) - yeah, that's me.

I was never a good poet. But hell, here it goes:
~Desert~
~46 Hostile Deaths, as of January 11th, 2006, starting from 2006.
2,199 Coalition Deaths, as of January 11th, 2006.
$240,612,044,599 Dollars, US Currency, as of January 11th, 2006.
15000 - 48100 Coalition Casualties, as of January 11th, 2006.
Between 28,403 and 32,013 Iraqi Civilians dead, as of January 11th, 2006.
No established government, as of January 11th, 2006.~
I wander through these sands of times,
Trying to make sense of all this hate.
They asked me simply to follow,
And now it seems I can only feel the fate.
What is going on? The air is tight now.
Why can't I see? Are the lights this bright now?
I can't stop these feelings of hate and fear,
And I didn't know this would be my career.
Punished by the civilians,
Sent here by the Status Quo,
They simply handed me a gun,
And made me go.
GET OUT OF HERE!
I didn't ask for this!
It's so damn cold out,
Stuck in this bloody feud,
No end to this futile bout.
COME ON!
Everything is state of the union,
And Christian Blasphemy.
I can't control my eyes,
I can't feel my fingers,
And the triggers numb.
GOODBYE!
How could I haven't seen this?
Was I really that naive?
So bloody dumb?
Now I'm staring at these dead bodies,
Wondering what's next,
Iran or the Chinese?
STOP THE HATE!
We don't need this fate.
All of us are heading to the end,
Nukes and Biowarfare,
Nothing left 'cept to defend.
On counter-act,
Ready for the counter-attack,
Six ways do die but only one way to go,
Next thing we'll see is the nuclear winter,
As we all freeze in the snow.
It's machine versus man,
And man against all,
And that bloody little missile,
Standing right up and tall.
Four gunmen to my left,
Seven are to might right,
Last thing we see,
Is the blood ridden night.
Flares come flying out,
And someone screams out full alarm,
Even the civilians can't predict the harm.
Whistles start blaring as the guns begin to crack,
We now realize that it's what we begin to lack.
They run right up, a monolith of destruction,
Royal troops and imperial tomorrow.
The voices of our Seargents,
Sending propoganda as fact.
1984 could never compare,
To the way people dispair,
Slit wrists and open wounds,
The sky falling down with salt.
It's full out assault,
With AKs and PMs,
The net's coming full force,
Throwing us around,
So we can't even see the source.
They said it was our patriotic duty,
And it was all in our head,
That when we'd get home,
We'd be worshiped as the hero, but now we just want to be fed.
Lairs and hypocrites,
Telling us what's right,
When they aren't in the pit,
Giving a damn fight.
So they tell us that god will forgive,
To hell with god, he never stopped us from letting us live.
Burn the churches, and wake up the dead,
Ignorance is not bliss,
And we're not just going to bend over,
Just for a kiss.
I can see the blood on your hands,
And I can see your heart clenching fist.
We know it's all over.
~Cpl. Roberto Abad
Cmdr. Joseph Acevedo
Sgt. 1st Class Ramon A. Acevedoaponte
Sgt. Michael D. Acklin II
The list goes on and on.~
~Voice~
Oh no, here it goes again,
One more panicing creation of the mind,
I can read all these god damn books,
But it's myself that I can't find.
All these people running amock,
Asking why should we believe?
And the holy men screaming back at us,
Saying we should never question,
If we're the sons of Adam and Eve.
God won't give us damn answers,
So now he's forcing us into confusion,
Making us pick up our lances,
Just to run and hide.
I don't want to live this way,
But I'm forced underground.
It's like I'm being forced into a cage,
In some being's sadistic pleasure.
And now I can feel all this pent up ways,
And I can't stop myself from the powers newfound,
And I know that I can't stop this rage,
And I know it's going down now.
I'm tired of slipping out the back,
Tired of people accusing me of being out whack.
It's time we all got up and stood for something,
And stop feeling this pain, running from everything.
Just when we thought it was safe to lay our head,
We saw the bloodstained quilt and the words written in red.
All of us combined as one,
Knowing that tonight we were the ones who never won.
The man stands atop of the pire,
Screaming out for something heavier.
The kid sits in the back,
Crying out against the rage of the liar.
Liberating our people won't liberate our minds,
So you can liberate this up your corporate holes.
You can't touch our revolution,
Or delouse our goals.
Six to the left,
Three to the right,
This is the night,
That we fight.
~Wasteland~
We're not the only ones,
Seeking the truth,
Even though we look around,
At everyone seemingly enjoying the fun.
The effects of the storm,
Can only forewarn,
Of the time that we will face ahead,
The blackend winter torching our bread.
The seeds have been sown,
And so we shall reap,
A foul crop,
Torn at the seem.
It is not pure poison,
That we shall digest,
It is the green aura,
Of our past guest.
Reaper of the hallow knows this land all to well,
And that reaper has come to clxxx all those who fell.
We know that the riddle was the end of time,
And now we are being burned in a cauldron of flesh and lime.
~Enthrone~
His heart beat,
Three,
Smelling the grounded sulfur and charcoal,
Two,
He could envision his own defeat,
One.
Cycle of life began with him,
And disbelief threw knocked over the pin.
People violated his rules,
Burnt his home, and murdered his kin.
Cycle of hate began that night,
Only the six could have forseen the fight.
Sky black as fear and red as hate,
Crimson lights burn away man's fate.
The slow ebbeing of blindness fades away,
As man now realizes what he has done today.
Winter slowly decends upon the people who believe,
Even though this was supposed to be a summer's eve.
Keeps and dungeons now ring free,
As we watch the ashes of the wake,
And the burning infernal tree.
Standing in the offical,
Oval and bare,
Sitting in the man who controlled the fate,
Laying back in his chair.
Now to guide the new age machine,
Driven on hate music and overidden on caffine,
We now know the end of all time,
Will stop with the push of the button,
And the end of this rhyme.

~Rough Drafts~
What the hell is going on?
I'm looking from my town,
But I know that I've already gone.
If this has already happen,
And it's not my own imagination,
Then how do I know,
That I'm not my own creation?
Could it be,
That this land,
That I can see,
Was built by my own two hands?
From far and wide,
Deep and clear,
I now know,
Why people fear.
If I could ever,
Look upon her,
The same way I did,
I would never,
Do what I had done,
And leave her up for bid.
She fell for another,
Some man that I don't know,
And I called her words,
That we all know,
It was wrong of me,
Natural selection should take over,
But I was so blinded by hate,
That I couldn't see.
I tried to vent,
Get the anger out,
Lose all of my fears,
But in the end,
I could only sit,
And watch bloodfilled tears.
She is still here,
Somewhere in my old town,
But they all know,
Why I'm not around.
~Rough Draft 2~
They say that in the end,
We will all se the light,
And travel into a land,
Where there is no night.
That say that in the course,
Of our universal time,
We will eventually realize,
All reason and every rhyme.
And one thing,
They don't ever say,
Is why I can't be,
Or why I can't stay.
From the first day,
To my very bloody last,
I always watched her,
And took all of her blasts.
I knew her from the beginning,
The start 'til the finish,
And we went through,
Every bend.
Now I wake up,
Just to find,
It was all a bad dream,
And she was just in my mind.
There is no reality,
No story to tell.
Only a poem,
A story of how it felt,
To realize,
In this grand little world,
That no one existed,
Not even the girl.
Every heartbeat,
And my eyes go wider,
Every breath,
And my throat gets tighter.
I can see her,
So clear in my mind,
I can see her,
With him,
Nothing but hate,
Left to find.
I'm trying to get,
These words down on paper,
I'm trying so hard,
Not to hate her.
I wake up once more,
To find it's no a dream,
Now I find myself,
Not able to say what,
I really mean.
Ashes of my past,
Dust of the rest,
I was betrayed by you,
The very best.
Normal men would cry,
Sensuals would up and die,
But my throat,
Does not bleed for you,
For a soldier's duty,
Is never up and due.
If you ever,
Ever think,
That it was all for one,
And one for all,
You are very mistaken,
It was for none at all.
You made us think,
These wars were for you,
But in the end,
It came down to you.
So you did us over,
And pulled a fast one,
And now you have to deal,
With our guns.
Time doesn't stop,
And neither does lead,
I'd watch your back,
Because we're after your head.
You betrayed me,
One and all,
But psychosis makes me,
Us in all.
So try to eliminate us,
I dare you to try,
In the end,
Only one of us will die.
I'm not the vengeful type,
And I never will be,
But I now know why,
You tried to xxxxx me.
You thought that just because,
I felt like I loved you,
I'd die for your every cause.
Well think again,
We're not down yet,
We know you'll never take a stand.
You tell your friends,
The unemotional lie,
You tell your friends,
You'd wish I'd fly,
To some far off place,
Just to get shot,
And then you brag,
About how you're "Hot".
Well to hell with that,
And to hell with you,
I know you so well,
And what you do.
You act as though,
Your creation was matter of fact,
But you can't stop me,
From committing the act.
If we have to die,
Then I will fight to the end,
This bomb works,
And it's the perfect blend.
People will know,
Just how much I hate you,
People will know,
Just why I hate you,
And people will know,
What's the fate of you.
Step up your octane,
Fill it with butane,
You can drive away,
But you can't expect,
So escape that way.
Fate's after you,
And so am I,
You know who's behind you.
That knife's not deadly,
It's the wielder behind it.
You think your a godess,
Well so do I,
And like every false god,
You're gonna die!
Quick as you may,
Deadly as you might.
We know you'll never stay and fight.
Try and get your little pawns to take me on,
I'll take them down,
Spit up back,
And xxxxx them around.
You spread your disease, just to thin,
And now I can see,
Your mutant cyst.
You built me a throne,
Based on hate and this,
And now I can see,
Why I hate you,
Even through the mist.
Chainsaws will work,
So will sticks,
And words are going to hurt you.
For the last bloody time,
You can't stop my war,
But you can take comfort,
In your headstone carved of lime.
Incase the blood,
Should flow from my hand as well,
Then I ask you,
To leave my story to tell.
This legacy shall not die,
And we all know why.
Tounges of men,
And angel's like,
Will guide my path,
Through the night.
My blood glows red,
A beckoning,
Of our goal,
To severe your head.
Say that I,
Sudden became enchained,
And my last bell,
Begins to chime,
Then I want you to reflect on your life,
And realize that you have lost all time.
And when they execute me,
On the mountain high,
I want you to remember,
Why I die.
Sands of fear,
And dust of hate,
Will not stop,
What I can procreate.
These are my children,
My almighty tears,
And when you know,
Just what it fears,
Then you will know,
Why I fled,
When I tried to ran,
And died instead.
How could this world have gone so wrong?
It was just supposed to be a dream,
But now I wake up to realize it's just you,
Now I wake up to realize megathons,
And parasidic anagrams,
Can't justify my words,
My angers,
Or what exactly I hate on.
If this was a dream,
Then I hope it becomes a memory,
Because if we die in vein,
Then atleast we will be,
With our own catastrophie.
We can walk the line,
And all through the mine,
We can walk the hell,
And never find,
Exactly what,
We came for,
Or even the time.
Take this last breath,
It's going to be ours,
For we shall both die,
Of quiet,
Murder and suicide.

~Me and Logic~
Welcome little girl,
Don't you dare cry,
Because the second you scream,
Is the second you die.
Do not mistake my reason being,
I am not hear as thy devil,
Or as thy enemy,
I am simply here.
You left your mind encased,
So innocent and pure,
You left your heart so open,
So that any man,
May defile you,
And there is no cure.
I used to watch you,
From the day you were born,
And I shall continue watching you,
Until the weeping men mourne.
You left behind you,
A trail of pain,
You left behind you,
Your mindless game,
And because of you,
We all suffer.
Why didn't you ever,
Take into consider me,
How could you refuse,
To even accept my friendship,
The leaf and tree.
Don't you dare scream,
For you still have no idea,
Of what I truely mean.
You never really knew me,
But certainly knew you.
I could read your heart,
Like an open book,
But the only thing you ever taught me,
Was what it was like,
To be buried in ash and soot.
I was there for you,
Every minute,
In my mind.
But what you never knew,
Was how far I could travel,
And what I could find.
You betrayed me in ways,
That you will never know,
And because of you,
I sit out here,
Freezing to the point of snow.
Don't you dare try,
To even think of escape,
Because at moment,
You will meet your fate.
My life is over,
Yours never began,
This life is like a mile,
And it is simply time,
That we ran.
If you try and move,
Go back home,
I will bury you,
Flesh and bone.
Just so you'll remember me,
I'll leave you a trinket,
Something you can mull over,
While you sip that blood red tea.
People call me the traitor.
But I was the one betrayed,
Because I truely knew,
The way you behaved.
So if you ever,
Find my gravesite,
Look it over,
For it will be your last sight.
In death I am one,
In life I was too,
The one who curled up inside,
And the one who came after you.
~Feral~
Trust your mind,
Oh ye little one,
You're about to lose it,
The blood was spilt on my vein,
A wrought destruction on my neck,
And you could only deny it,
But we all knew the truth.
It was ten past nine,
And you needed your fix,
To shoot up and get high,
To get a little of that white powder mix.
Acting as though,
You were the toughest of tough,
The king of kings,
The roughest of the rough.
You never realized,
That while the pen is mighter than the sword,
Blood would still pour.
Your laws may protect you,
After the act,
But the only way,
Is to prove one fact.
Murder is a simple process.
Easy as it seems.
You pull the trigger.
And watch and see.
You wouldn't allow this,
Tried to chain me down,
But in the end,
Point Nine M was all you found.
Darkness now embraces your soul,
And your would be empire,
Is now freezing cold.
Your people are amock,
Your life is destroyed,
The tower is burning,
With virus and smoke.
Doxxxents and referrals were all you needed,
You run your empire, based on greed.
And now you're down in the hole,
Six feet alive,
And Twenty Feet Dead.
Cruel how fates,
Would seemingly collide,
And force this bolt,
To hit this slide.
Cruel how life,
When all seems well,
Turns up,
And throws you to hell.
May you rest in piece,
I know you won't.
I still remember those sweet words,
Screaming out, "Dont!".
Have you lost your mind yet?
Litte girl: No..
That's too bad.
*Gunshot*
~Ironica~
You asked for it.
I was the only one with a brain,
All you could see was my blood pain,
And now you can't see the promise land,
Because you're staring at the back of your hand.
Words are written down,
And you watch them surround,
Surreal,
But now you can't feel.
They ensume your mind,
That thing,
You'll never be able to find.
This is your day of defeat,
This is your day of recogning,
This is your day of hell,
And in the end,
You'll feel this.
You wanted it.
I tried to show you the way,
And you simply dismissed me.
Well now you've got a new way to pay,
And you are here to stay.
Come sit down little child,
There's nothing to fear,
Except the reaper,
The devil who lives here.
It seems you're in pain?
Did this just come spur of the moment?
Or have you been here before?
You can't see through the rain,
Because when you're up so high,
I'm shooting at the sky.
And when you try to get low,
You'll never exist,
In the depths below.
This is your day of defeat,
This is your day of recogning,
This is your day of hell,
And in the end,
You'll feel this.
You got it.
I was the only one to really care,
But even that became tiring.
You dried me to points,
That not even the devil would dare.
You tried to make me die,
But I rose to fly.
Shooting me down was no use,
I already had your head in a noose.
It was a quick pull of the trigger,
A quick snap of the throat,
And all you were was dead.
Past-tense,
Present-fear,
You wanna feel this?
Then come and get it.
You tried to beat me down,
Run us like an experiment,
A one way digital feral treatment,
And now look at you.
This is your day of defeat,
This is your day of recogning,
This is your day of hell,
And in the end,
You'll feel this.
Look left, look right,
This is the end.
You had to run, you had to fear,
You had to come close,
And stay so near.
Now you've run away,
Acting like you don't care,
You're like a cist,
Climbing into my hair.
Last time I checked,
It was you who betrayed us,
It was you who played us,
It was you who made us your pawns.
Now look at me,
I'm no where near,
On guard and paranoid,
Checking six and taking hold.
It's feral denial that you exist,
Not superior mentality,
And your fog and mist.
Act like your superior,
Running us like you did,
But take a look,
You just shot a kid.
We had to so much in common,
Fighting for the goal,
But then it came down,
To the rock and roll.
I guess it was time,
For us to be left behind,
But just so you know,
Next time you show your face,
I'll spray it down,
And make you swallow mace.
This is your day of defeat,
This is your day of recogning,
This is your day of hell,
And in the end,
You'll feel this.
Check your left,
Check your right,
You're only here,
Out of fright.
Take a grip,
Because you can't get one,
You tried to infiltrate us,
And make yourself procreate,
I am your son, your father,
And your holy ghost,
I am the parts you're the most.
You can kill what you did create,
But you can't destroy,
That much hate.
The next time you think,
You have so much over us,
Just remember what you did to us.
Just remember how you bit the dust,
Remember all your superiority,
And remember your feral minority,
You are the cancer,
I am the tumour,
And now it's time,
We met the remover.
This was supposed to be my disappearing act,
My removal after the fact,
This was supposed to be the day you all ran,
But you didn't do all you can.
So I had to watch, in wait and horror,
As you tortured us once more over.
Well now you come,
And sparatically go,
But you'll never know.
Now it's time to make you cry,
And it's the best alternative,
Because the other one is to die.
This is your day of defeat,
This is your day of recogning,
This is your day of hell,
And in the end,
You'll feel this.

Razor blades and knives,
Were once the weapon of choice,
Now it seems that I have been stripped,
Of my identity and voice.
I asked for help,
And then screamed before I cried,
Yet you seemingly wonder,
Exactly why I died.
Maybe if you had listend to me,
Before I got caught up in the moment,
You wouldn't just now be finding out,
Why I was the only one sent.
Back home it used to be,
That I could escape and run,
Pretend like it was the end,
And live it up for the fun.
Soon I found out,
That the fact was plain and clear,
Our only purpose on this planet,
Is to look around and feel fear.
Maybe those kids who murder and ****,
Have the right idea for life,
Because they don't have to worry,
About money, kids or a wife.
Everyone seems to be popular,
As if they were the chosen,
As if they were given the right,
To make life seem so frozen.
They said the pen was mighter,
Than the gun or the sword,
But I have yet to see a pen,
Stop a .22 or the knife of the lord.
I'm constantly told that,
If I have faith in the Church,
But for some reason I can't deal,
With the way people hang from the perch.
I've been told that if I feel,
Try and connect with the one deep level,
I can escape free,
It ends up I'm only burying people with a shovel.
My best friend got mowed down,
Seemingly removed from our time,
It can't be summed up,
In a chord or a rhyme.
People complain about things being too emotional,
Yet no one cares to deal with the problem,
It seems it never occured to all of the critics,
Of all that was given to them.
The more I learn from these institutions,
It comes more and more to mind,
That there is no answer,
No God that I can find.
I want to believe,
To have faith,
But I can keep on seeing that priest,
Some sort of enigmatic wraith.
He told me it would always be okay,
If I keep up my praying and read the book,
But now I can only see it was the method,
For all that the pastor took.
Watching all my memories fade,
I can't help if I get a small tear,
For all those who have died,
Out of knowledge of the truth, out of fear.
I never asked for much,
I never wanted attention,
But now I must ask you all,
To never speak ill, only to mention.
Maybe I'm too dramatic,
And I should just shut up and be glad for what I can make,
But for some reason I can't exactly deal with this stress,
And I'm sorry, but I guess I just need a break.

I just read all of Icarion's stuff, and while the concepts are there, I don't really think it's poetry yet. More... prose with a strange paragraph style, with the good ol' ABCB DEFE style of rhyming thrown in.
I especially like the sweet, sweet irony of the following stanza:

At any rate, I thought of this little ditty after reading it all:
The dour poems
Of gothic gnomes
Make death a constant feeling;
But when minds roam
From hearth and home
Happiness has no ceiling.

Yeah, I know they are crappy. Like I said, I'm no poet.
Wait a minute... Gnomes?
As in the little midgets? What the fuck?
