I attended an anti-environmental racism rally in front of the Pacific Gas & Electric power plant in Bayview-Hunter's Point today, despite the rain. Anything that affects Black folks in this town affects me, so I'm down with helping the residents of that neighbourhood do whatever it takes to close down the source of their nightly nosebleeds, asthma & cancer. On top of that, the Black residents of Bayview-Hunter's Point also have to contend with S.F. city government's "community-driven" redevelopment plans that don't include them [building an additional train-line through 3rd Street, plans to destroy the housing projects that have been there for decades & replacing them with new, overly-expensive houses & building another 49ers football team stadium]. I'll help them in that fight as well. This town already has enough fucking Yuppies in it! Besides getting groceries & getting rained on, I also went to see "The Notorious Bettie Page" with my 2 roommates at some theatre in Nob Hill. For free [with a xeroxed pass]. I almost didn't go, but my roommate talked me into it.

Last night I took the train to a coastal town and went for a walk along the promenade. The sky in the east was clear and blue and cradling a bright full moon even though the sun hadn't fully set. As it did, the sky in the west behind the mountains lit up with pyromancy. After my walk I had a drink in a pub tucked away at near a harbour. It was an interesting little place. The booth I concealed myself in was next to an old confession box and had a prop gravestone beside it. After downing a delicious pint of Guinness and packet of salted peanuts, I caught the train home.

Pathogen, are the housing projects government-funded houses that are leased to people under a certain income for lower rent than normal? If so, how can they destroy them and and not replace them with modern versions for those people who need them?

Gnossis, my boss didn't run a puppymill, but her dogs essentially lived their lives in cages. I forget what the name of it is, but there's a name for the dementia dogs go through that are kept in cages for extended periods of time. It's not 'cage shy', that's just being territorial.
I do think the woman should be jailed for the fact that one of her dogs damned near killed 2 people though. You could tell by the way that fucker looked at you that his mind wasn't right.
But, yes, her dogs were basically just another way that she made money.
Fi on her and other people like her!
Pathogen, it sucks that the govt. thinks it has the right to bulldoze people's homes for a fucking railway! And I'm plenty jealous of the fact that you've seen the Bettie Page movie before me.

MORRIGAN: I'm not sure. But the demolition of them in the not-so-distant future will be for new replacement homes--and they won't be for the low-income Black residents that currently stay in the corner of Bayview-Hunter's Point nearest to the P.G.& E. power plant. There's a strong possibility of those same Black residents being displaced. That scares me. 2 things will happen once the S.F. city government & local real-estate management companies get their way: 1) Former Bayview-Hunter's Point residents will be pushed in to the East bay, particularly Oakland & South Berkeley OR 2) they will leave the S.F. Bay Area completely. The pro-business/pro-landlord Gavin Newsom regime is counting on either happening. The city has been doing that to the Black populace of S.F. since the late 1960s, starting with the gentrification of the Fillmore I briefly mentioned in my last post. That trend continued with the wholesale eviction of the S.F. Black Panthers headquarters in the Fillmore [1972], the demolition of mostly Black-populated housing projects in the Mission/erection of expensive warehouses & "live-work" lofts [1993] & the late 1990s "dot-com boom" that brought Yuppies in from other parts of the U.$. The P.G.& E. plant will be shut down, only if the steady redevelopment of that neighbourhood continues. Want to know what the saddest part is? Sophie Maxwell--the supervisour that represents Bayview-Hunter's Point--is fully in favour of her district's facelift. For the rich tourists/sports fans & local Yuppies. This goes to show that beneath its own assertions of being a historically-progressive city, San Francisco is hella racist & classist.

What the hell are they gonna do? Just kick these people out on the streets? If I was there I'd be protesting too! And looking for a way to vote someone more sympathetic to the resident's needs into a position with some influence.
Eveytime I read something like that my first reaction is: What is this country coming to?
I guess the answer would be:Where have you been the last 26 years?
That's just horrible, Path. I hope that there's a revolt and they're not able to demolish those people's homes.

I was rejected by yet another literary magazine, this time Niederngasse. I think it is definately time for more fiction and perhaps a bit less verse.

Filmed, or 'was in'? How did it go?

I filmed it. It's nothing big, or important, but I did it. It went ok minus the fact that I was working with a major migraine, major time constraints, and a girl who barely knew the music. It went rather well. I was in charge of wardrobe and makeup too. Honestly the other people there didn't do much at all...that was a bit frustrating. It went rather well though.

I ran a mile with the wife, then spent the day writing a 7 page paper to satisfy the final exam requirement for one of the four grad classes I'm taking.* After that I went to the class and we had a pretty good discussion (the class had eight or so people enroll but only two others and I ever showed up), then I came home to a tornado warning until about three in the morning, so now I'm on tornado watch for the nervous wife while she nurses a migraine and I nurse coffee and cloves. :P

* The topic had to do with my attempt to reconcile Critical Theory and existential thought

We celebrated Ana's birthday today (she turned 17 yesterday)
It was a small thing, really. We just went to eat at Chili's and then went bowling. I would have preferred something more romantic, but we weren't alone.
Anyway, the important part is that I was with her, and I see nothing has really changed since we broke up.

Thanks for the congrats love! Maybe I'll stick a link to it up here somewhere when the chick who's editing it is done. Oh how I hate handing my visions over to an editor. I'd much, much rather edit it myself.
Also, I made a necklace today!

So far today I've walked to work and had breakfast at my desk... a nectarine and natural yoghurt...and a croissant. Bad girl, Morrigan. You just couldn't resist the croissant. Oh, I bemoan my lack of self-discipline when it comes to baked goods, especially french baked goods. So full of crumbly, flakey, buttery tastiness. *Drools*
Maybe I'll get another one...
