People are stupid. So much for the belief that children get smarter with evry generation. They just get hornier.

i'm from canada and our school boards have us start learning sex ed in grade 4, which is well and good. when highschool comes sex ed is added to gym class, which after grade 9 is no longer manditory. through all those years of sex ed all u learn are the facts and statistics. its not until grade 12 that they teach the intamcies or emotional factors of having sex, which i absolutely rediculous considering that half my grade 8 class (the year b4 entering highschool) were no longer virgins and had already had to deal with the emotional consiquences, because they didnt know that sex had anything to do with emotions, they knew to wear a condom, cuz of STD's and pregnancy, but they had no idea that u could get hurt in any other way.
i'm 17, not religious, and still a virgin, which from what i can see around my school is quite a rarity. i thank my mom for that because she made sure that everything was an open topic, that no matter what question we had we could ask it. i never had the akward sex talk, and i think if more parents could be like that in some way, even a little bit, it would do a lot of good.

In Edinburgh we have an under18s night on a Saturday evening, which ends about 10pm (before the over 18s starts...) usually playing mainstream stuff downstairs and industrial/ebm/goth and metal upstairs, which is all a good concept, and usually good fun. But then there's always the girls downstairs who you can count on to turn up in a mini tartan skirt, knee high socks and/or fishnets then either new rocks with flames on them or DCs. They come into the club with tight tops on, which sometimes are too tight for some of the girls (excuse the bitchyness there) then within an hour they're lost and they're running about in just a bra. Not even a bikini top, just a bog standard bra, because its "sexy" or something. They're usually found grinding (not dancing) agains another female friend to see how many guys they can attract and get their tounges down the throats off by the end of the night. Some dissappear upstairs and as good as have sex with each other in a dark corner, but never get any further than hands because of the constant monitoring that has to go on. Its horrible and just shows how little self respect most of them have.
{random little story} Outside the club about half an hour before the end when I was waiting on a friend to get something to eat, I noticed this one girl that had been thrown out earlier that night. She was chatting away to one of the bouncers when he had asked her why she had been thrown out. Her reply was that she had been caught about to give a guy a hand job against the stage (there's a stage on the ground floor which stretches out almost half way into the main part of the club) and she had been warned about that kind of thing before. At this point I realised the dress she had on zipped up at the front and she had it done up to just below where her bra was underneath. One of the other bouncers told her to zip it up because the police were going about, plus she was under 18 and should be showing that much anyway, never mind in front of adults, then she said "but if I do, no guys will want to pull me because I won't look as sexy" to which the bouncer replied "your right, you won't pull any desperate guys, because they're only looking for the easy girls" I walked away with a huge grin on my face after that.{/random story}
I'll shut up now.

This is actually a serious pet peeve of mine, so pardon any ranting!
When I was in school, we were taught sex ed in 5th grade, and it was basically an excuse for 45 minutes of sex jokes from the older kids, and disgusted comments from the younger. The only reason I feel I was prepared for the sexual world was my parents, because they DID teach me more than just about the physical facts, and they DID say things like no, and follow through on it, as far as clothes, make-up, and even who I could associate with at times. Through strong, but thoughtful parenting, I turned out fairly decent, and learned when and how to make the proper choices for myself, and waited until my last year of highschool, which was my choice entirely.
Yesterday, at work, I saw a kid who couldnt have been more than 8 wearing eyeliner and lipstick, WITH her mother.
Perhaps the parents of these children and those coming soon dont want to deny their child anything, and cant stand the thought of a backlash if they do. Not a strong parent, IMO. Maybe they think that they will scar their child if they dont give them the same clothes they see in the stores, that all the other children are wearing.
What I think is not happening is the teaching of consequences, both for kids and parents, when we let society become so centered around sexuality. The problem with this is that we as a society cant teach it. Its a family thing, or should be. We cant teach in schools how its not proper to wear a mini-skirt to a wedding at age 12, because that is something that was to be left in the realm of parenting. Maybe some parents feel that since their kids are in school for most of the day, they'll learn all they need, and dont bother with such minor things as ettiquite, the parts of sex ed that they dont show on the movies, and self-respect.
Sheesh, that was long. Like I said, pet peeve!

It does seem that parents are oversexing their children. Take any of the fashion shows and pagents for an example. My mom didn't dress me up in skimpy clothes but she did love putting so much makeup on me when I had my dance recitals. It was really ridiculous.
I do also agree that children are growing up too fast. There are so many examples of it and it's quite sad. Children are being robbed of their childhood and childhood is a great thing! It's your time to have fun and not to have cares in the world. But today we are robbing children of a childhood so we can turn them into little adults.

Have any of you ever walked past the children's shoe section?! There are high heeled boots for as young as first graders! IT really makes me sad. childhood is such an important part of life. I think the next generation is headed for some major therapy bills. When I has in first grade, I wore tie-dyed shirts and Flintsone print pants. I didn't even know how sex actually happened until 5th or 6th grade. Now in hr. high, foreplay is something you do at the movies instead of say hold hands. I know it's horrible, but 13 has become the AVERAGE age of first times.

13  ewwww!!!!
At 15 I was the first person in my group of friends to have sex and that was after I had been with the guy for over a year. I can't imagine being ready to have sex at 13, I can't even imagine being in a real relationship that young.

I saw boobies when I was five or six. I don't see why anyone leaves out a Playboy when they're will be children around. My mom told me about sex when I was about six or seven. She made me and my sister wear these dresses that she made. They were nice but I hated them. There were the high waisted kind.
I used to take tap dance (yay!) and we had dance recitals and my mom would put a hideous amount of makeup on me for no good reason. I hated the way it felt. It might be the reason I can only stand to wear eyeshadow and not anything heavy like eyeliner or mascara. Icky!
I think this is slightly revelant.

My oldest daughter always liked playing "dress-up", and playing with make-up. I saw no problem with it, provided she understood the rules. No wearing it out in public, until she was at least 14. That seemed to work well for us. Of course, she decided she wanted to wear it to school when she was about 12, and did such a good job of putting it on, that no one actually knew she was wearing it. She was grounded for awhile from it. When I say not until 14, I -mean- not until 14. Period.
But I -did- ease up and allow light coloured lip gloss, and face powder.
Dressing skanky was never an issue. She wouldn't do it. In fact the issue she and I had about clothes, was she covered up -too- much. Not that I wanted her to dress revealing...but I thought 3 shirts at once in 100 degree weather was a little excessive. But it made her feel more secure, so as long as they were kept clean, and separated when I did the laundry, I was not going to argue about it. I try to pick my battles with my kids...that one wasn't worth the energy.
She also wanted her tongue pierced. I was not real thrilled about the idea, and made an agreement with her...if she waited until she was 18, then I'd pierce her nose (which she also wanted). It was more a safety issue. Where we lived, there wasn't a reputable piercer who would do tongues for anyone under 18 (tattoo parlours are illegal here), and it's just too easy for damage to be done to the tongue. But the nostril is not much different than the earlobe, so I felt it was doable. That was good enough.
When it came to sex, I told her the truth (age appropriate). As she got older I told her more truths. As a teen, I gave her -all- the facts. And it was never one of those akward conversations, either. Talking about sex and drugs around our home was as natural as talking about homework, or the weather.
Nudity wasn't an issue, either. I see nothing wrong with the human body. I did -not- however, allow my children to view anything that depicted even simulated sex.
But she did know that her mother has sex. Not graphic, mind you...more along the lines of...she'd always steal my can of Pepsi. One day (she was about 12) just as she was about to take a drink, I asked her if she knew where my mouth had been. Yes, she froze in mid-lift, put the can down, and never touched another thing I had been drinking out of.
She tells me that the unblemished facts I gave her when she was a teen were enough to traumatize her from even attempting sex until she was much older. I think it was probably the Pepsi incident.

Interesting. I can understand the dressing too much thing. My grandmother doesn't like when I wear baggy t-shirts. She likes it when I wear form flattering clothes that show that I have something of a figure but that don't make me look like a slut although wearing a skirt above the knees and a tank top is skanny according to her.

Well, with her, it was a case of wanting to hide as much as possible. She was already quite tall compared to the other girls her age (She finally stopped at about 6'1"), and developed early. She's a big-busted girl, and it made her uncomfortable when she was teased about it.

That's understandable. Sometimes people are so stupid. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own bodies but some mean people have to make things really hard for people.
I'm so short. I'm 5' 3".

I agree. I tried to instill a sense of acceptance of herself, and tried to help her get comfortable in her own skin (as best as I could, anyway). But you know how it is...I'm Mom...so my opinion of how lovely she is, is clearly biased.

I am growing up in a a very strict home.
It weird and cool at the same time because last year I wasn't allowed to go to the formal but my parents did let me go to Midtown Music Festival and go off on my own with a cellphone. you have to think huge concert 45000 drunk and high people me off on my own with a cellphone 2nd row in the Smile Empty Soul concert. The formal, 35 people(my entire class with their dates) non alcoholic chaperoned. Ok yeah my parents are wierd, but in a good way. I have never wished to dress like a slut , well thats a lie when I was a little kid I decided that I wanted to go out in a crop top leggings and really big clip on earrings. My parents said no. Thank god. But I have never worn a skirt above my knees, and when I go wear a skirt I wear really high socks or really high boots so I don't like showing my legs, really pale. Some times I think my parents think i secretly have an urge to be a slut, they tell me dont think about buying that shirt its too short, when Im really looking at the long pants next to them. I have friends who wear tight clothes who really dont need to be wearing them and showing skin that they dont need be showing. i fI wore clothes Like that I would be really really paranoid. I am surrounded by people dressed like hookers (even with uniform shirts) and my clothes stand out but not that way.

showing what you're working with is all fine Xng, but my point is some of these ankle biters should still be playing with their strawberry shortcake dolls instead ofwalking around in stuff that porn stars would fear to wear..
i have seen little girls in the shirts with sexual innuendos that were too young to even know what an innuendo is, much less the sex part >_<
and then they go walking around fighting with each other saying "I'm gonna take your man bitch!" and having unprotected sex..
*i mean really, how fucking good can sex be when you're 10? *
i'm all for showing skin *you will not find one dress top in my closet that does not show massive cleavage* but i just think that those who are showing skin needn't be jailbait..

There is a chain in some of the malls that's like "Glamour Shots" but for little prebubescent girls.
Now, if you're not familiar with Glamour Shots, it's a photography studio that dresses you up all sexy-like, does your hair, and make-up, and takes portrait shots. Not quite like the Boudior portraits where the women wear sexy nities, but not too far off.
And they have something like this for little girls.
But they don't have a pretty princess dress, or anything little girls -should- be wanting to wear. They have clothes like Mommy would wear if she were out hunting dick for the night!
What in the *FUCK* are these people thinking?! And just what the *FUCK* are the parents thinking, when they take their kids there?!
Jeeze! It's a fucking flea market for **********, these days!

having a little mystery is not evil...
