I honestly don't know whether to laugh or be utterly disgusted. It's pretty fucking funny... till you imagine being the kid. High school's hard enough, without everyone you have to face having seen you get a pencil up the butt.

If I were the Judge, I'd make them chew the end.

Still, though, I can't imagine it would have not only gone to court, but had the prosecution pushing to have them tried as adults, if the kid had said, "hey, no problem, that's just how we mess around". I'd imagine they wouldn't bother taking it to trial if the victim was going to get on the stand and say it was just playing. They'd have a helluva time getting them punished, wouldn't they? Surely the defence could just get a statement from the victim saying it was just messing around and then they'd have little hope of painting the perpetraors as rapists. Of course, I could be wrong. That's just how it seems to me.

But a pencil? Can't they steal their moms' dildoes or something? A pencil could leave splinters...and would make for a really funny story for your doctor to tell his friends at a coctail party later.
