A; big pants are completely and utterly not goth,

I have never seen Hot Topic, probably not in Australia, but it sounds alot like Joynt Venture. The only reason why I go there now is to see if they have any good band shirts. Too many mainstream people go there now.

As long as they're not buying exclusively from Hot Topic, trying to copy the 'look' of a goth, it's fine with me...I'm not an avid shopper at the store myself, but many times I wander in to look at the earrings and perfume. I bought a very nice choker there once. It's a little expensive for my taste, and I'm not overly fond of the clothes themselves; I'm more likely to check out the witty buttons and bumper stickers than buy the actual clothes, but if I find a shirt I like there, I'll buy it. Why not? It beats going down to NY just to shop at Manic Panic.

I shop there because thet have clothes I find attractive. I like the clothes and they look good on me. It's the public that makes Hot Topic so pop-like and fake. When it first came out people judged it were like "Oh my god, Goth!" Now goth is a fuckin fashion statement and like, so totally cool to wear. Now Hot Topic is full of preppies and emo kids and posers. I dont only shop there because I have a job. But when I have enough money I shop there, I love it. Sorry...it's my style. No store is as close to goth as Hot Topic is, so why shop elsewhere and why say that they arent goth? Who else is?

I recently shopped there for some body jewlery, and I must say they have some nice things for cheap (although they were on sale.) I have some clothing from there, and although I spent A LOT of money for one pair of pants and one shirt, I like them both, so whatever.

In a town where goth is not considered. period. and the fact that I suck at anything creative unless its music I am forced to shop at places Ive tried DIY and it always comes out horrible. So this is why I shop at Hot Topic once in a blue moon. every other time I shop at wal-mart

Haha, true indeed.
On the Hot Topic discussion, I remember not three years ago, many preppy friends used to ask me if I shopped at Hot Topic and that how could I enter such a scary store.
Nowadays, they enter that store every other visit to the mall and come out with Nightmare Before Christmas and Hello Kitty products.

Exactly my point. It used to be "cool" and all gothy but the damn preps turned it, well, preppy. And I'm not lazy, they just dont have the clothes I like at any shitty second hand store where people drop off their old used clothes. And DIY? Sorry I guess we dont have one...

The best part about this thread is that the same thing has been said over and over again for nineteen pages.
I say, hey, if fourteen year olds want to buy a black band t-shirt and a Nightmare Before Christmas figurine, let them. Just makes me look better in the long run because I know what the fuck I'm doing.

Heehee, then here is something a little different about Hot Topic:
I am in a database training class this week, and who else is in the class with double industrial ear piercings in both ears with stretched earlobes? The database admin for Hot Topic! For real! So we chat, and he says they have bands come in to the coporate headquaters now and then for promotions, company parties etc., and guess who he last saw? LACUNA COIL! He said Christina Scabbia came in wearing just jeans and a sweater, wasn't Gothed up at all. But he got her autograph! Lucky dawg!
We have breaks during the class, so we chat, and it always ends up that we're talking and finally notice that nobody else is, and the instructor is looking at us both, as we didn't realize that we turned a 15 minute break into a 20 minute one.

The same shit will always get said over and over again. Just like millions of people have repeated what you just said GNM. And how is it that only 14 year olds whop there and that you know what you are doing? It's a freaking clothing store for crying out loud, who gives a shit. Get over it. Do dont like, good for you. I so, good for me. But by shop there or not doesnt make anyone better than the next person.
Humane Pain that's cool. My husband worked there when it first came to our town. They were gonna send him to concerts for free so he could give his input on the bands to the customers. He was the only one that actually fit in there. Everyone else that worked there were preppies that knew nothing about music. They treated him like shit and didnt even pay him enough to shop there, even with our 40% discount.

You know, I have thought of that for many times, but somehow this is the first reason I've noticed.
It's like: you know you have toes, but how often do you stop to really think "I have toes."?

Hmm. I hear the name Hot Topic bandied around rather a lot from people in the US. I don't think we have anything like that here. Not a chain style store anyway. I reckon the closest thing we might have here is perhaps the Alchemy Gothic catalog.
I shop at an alternative clothing "indoor market" as it were, and that has a couple of shops selling gothic clothing, a little of it is from Alchemy, I have one top from that catalog. It's quite nice, if a little revealing!!!!! They sell clothing by Nomads ( more hippyish) Darkstar ect... But a lot of the clothes are far far too small for me, they were definitley made for very skinny people indeed!! One skirt would not have fitted past one of my thighs let alone round my waist!!!!!
They have started getting bigger things in now though so it is getting easier, it's not cheap, but then, it isn't cheap crap to be fair. I've never had anything fall apart yet so it's been worth the money I think.

I buy a great deal of clothes at Old Navy. No, I don't care that it's 'mainstream', nor do I care that 'mainstream' people shop there. I very rarely shop at Hot Topic because their clothes generally of poor quality and taste.
But, then again, I don't carry the terrible, burdensome crucifix of Gothdom.
It's amazing to see that this thread is still here. I barely notice Hot Topic when I walk by. That's because I don't care. At all. I don't like the image that the store sells, but I recognize that many people pass through a phase during which they identify with it.
Let it die. Hot Topic is not interesting, nor are its customers, nor is this thread.

This topic is not interesting yet you took the time to read through it and comment on it, twice. Hmm....And since when are Old Navy customers and stores interesting? lol. To each his own.

He's been here more than I have.
Circle V doesn't need to read the thread. He knows what's been here and what hasn't.

BlackWidow, one does not have to find a topic interesting to bother reading it or commenting on it. I find many things to be bland that I still bother myself with, and I am sure you do the same. It doesn't matter if something is of interest or not as long as it gives one something to do with their time, instead of just sitting around staring at their monitor (as I often do).
